Question Erratic, Crazy, MESSING WITH MY MIND Beta Levels...

I hope some input from you lovely Beta experts here can help.

Back in 2002 I had an ectopic pregnancy which left me with just the one right tube, so I now get monitored with every pregnancy. In 2007 I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy (straight forward pregnancy) and in 2009 I had a miscarriage (D&C at 11 weeks - baby stopped growing just after 6wks).

Anyways after trying for a while this time round, just found out on Wednesday I am pregnant. My DPO aren't exact (I believe I may have implanted day 9 or 10) so I'm not too worried about the low numbers.

    DPO 11 - 16 Hcg
    DPO 13 - 56 Hcg (awesome 24hr doubling)
    DPO 16 - 116 Hcg (Ummm... only 68hr doubling )

I sort of wish I never got that DPO 13 result - then the doubling times would be normal! But now I'm starting to freak out a little - went back for another test today and now I have the LONG wait till later to get the results. I have the usual symptoms - very tender breasts, constipated, bloated, stretchy pains and all these are giving me some sort of comfort at the moment.

I also had an early ultrasound on Monday and that revealed that I actually ovulated on my left side (yep, the side without a tube) so my good ol' right tube was working overtime this month

I just wish my doubling times weren't so out of whack and would love some thoughts if any of you lovely ladies have seen this before and whether I should just brace myself?

    Cheers,

    Mamakin

If you ovulated from your left side, I would be extremely careful as you might have an ectopic pregnancy inside your left ovary. I don't know any possible way for an embryo created on the left side to migrate all the way over to the right tube and implant in utero. So unless you also ovulated from the right, I would be super, super careful and get ultrasounds and the whole bit very early. Sorry I don't have better news, but it makes me reaaaaaaally nervous to know that you ovulated on a side w/o a tube and got pregnant. Good luck!!

    Thanks for replying

I'm not too worried about the left ovary - right tube situation. It was explained by my OB that can actually happen (it's a bit of rarity but can happen) because he's heard of women who only have one overy and one tube and they're on opposite sides and they've fallen pregnant naturally. I found a paragraph written by someone else that explains it better than I could:

Normally, it is possible to get pregnant when you only have one tube and one ovary that are opposite from each other. In fact, in nature, the egg ovulated from one ovary, say the right side, does not necessarily go into the right tube. This is a misunderstanding. The Fallopian tubes actually hang 2 cms (1 inch) down below the ovary and the egg can be ovulated from any part of the ovary. In reality, the egg is expelled from the ovary with all the fluid that surrounds it in the follicle. That fluid rushes out taking the egg with it. It then falls into a space called the culdesac located behind the uterus, where the ends of the fallopian tubes hang. Then by simple fluid motion (think of a spec of dust in a small puddle of water), the egg either contacts one tube or the other. It does not always find a tube. So in this way, it can contact either the right tube or the left tube
I had heard from a girl on another forum who has one tube and was pregnant with twins (one from each ovary) now her tube was working hard that month

I still do worry about an ectopic though - of course and will have watch how things go. It was just so weird how the numbers went up so fast at first and then slowed back down again. I hate this wait more so than the 2WW!

Wow, I never knew that!!! I learn something new every day... Well that makes me a bit less nervous about crazy ovarian pregnancies. Anyhoo, I have my fingers crossed that your numbers pick up and that you have a successful pregnancy. I've seen numbers do crazy things before. Did you have all of your betas drawn at the same lab?

I'm learning things by the second here LOL! But I think the body is a crazy amazing piece of work and I don't think we'll ever know how it all works completely! It's crazy isn't it! I had read all those stories about opposite tubes and ovaries - but didn't think it would be me (my son and that miscarriage were both from the right ovary).

Yep all done by the same lab - I was kinda hoping that 56 on 13 DPO was suppose to be a 36 and it was typo - highly unlikely - but anyways!

2 more hours till I get todays result - my OB emailed and said it was still a good rise and not to worry (LOL me not worry - he's a funny guy!)....

Thanks again for replying - makes todays wait a lil easier
