Hi everyone...I am really having a difficult time! I had my IVF transfer of 2 blastocyst embryos on sept 25th. I found out I am pregnant on Monday October 5th. My doctor said my numbers are low, but they are rising. They don't seem to happy about my situation, but are having me continue with progesterone suppositories and estrodial. Yesterday I started spotting, light pink, then went to brown. Now it's almost gone. I have more blood work tomorrow and an ultrasound on Friday. I have had some cramping off and on, mostly at night. I am trying to stay positive, but they have already told me that this pregnancy is not off to a good start. This is my first IVF and first pregnancy. I am so scared of an ectopic or miscarriage. Please, any advice would be appreciated! I am driving myself crazy and my husband as well. Here are my beta numbers so far. They are doubling, but not fast enough, and should be higher. I have hear of some healthy pregnancies with numbers like mine, but also some really sad stories. Thanks for any help and advice...this is so difficult!

living children mentioned
I'm so sorry that you are going through "beta hell". The good news is that your numbers are rising. Also, spotting such as you described is totally common. I had zero spotting with my first child, but I spotted for two weeks (starting at beta time) with my second. I thought for sure that the pregnancy was over. The pregnancy was perfect from there on out.
Unfortunately, only time can tell. I know that IVF betas tend to start off lower. Will your dr. continue to draw betas for you until u/s time? Please do update when you can. My prayers are with you are your little one(s). It is so nerve wracking! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

With my son two years ago, they only did two betas and they were 33 on day 10 and like 58 on day 12. So they didn't double, but now he's healthy and happy. On the flip side, I had a miscarriage in march and my first beta was 185...so see, it really doesn't matter. I think we make too much out of betas.
Also, I spotted with my son around 10 weeks, then again twice later on. So spotting is common too. And brown is old blood. Let us know how it goes!

I agree with the others. You just can't know. I know a girl on another board who had very slow rising betas. They told her it probably wasn't going to last. She's 10 or 11wks now.
It's going up, so that's good. As for the bleeding, hat is common too. I had heavy bright red bleeding at 6wks with my twins. They are now 21 months old. It turns out I had an unexplained blood clot in my uterus that resolved on it's own a few weeks after the bleeding. Don't lose hope! Keep us posted.

Thanks so much for your responses. The spotting has subsided, but my number today was 231.
(from 172 monday) My doctor still want me to continue taking the meds. I go back Friday for an ultrasound to see if they can find anything out. May be too early. My doctor said that he honestly thnks its an early miscarriage. This is just crazy!! Such an emotional roller coaster. I don't know how to be...hope for the best, but prepare for the worst?? I appreciate all of your encouragement, and I can only hope and pray that it is a good outcome!

Thanks
Hi Oli...unfortunately I went yesterday for an ultrasound and they didn't see anything. So they wanted to giv me a shot to bring on the miscarriage, but I wanted to wait for my beta levels. I figured if they went down, I want to try and let it happen naturally. That shot has some side effects and I will have to wait longer to start up. So we waited, and my beta levels dropped a little, therfore I refused the shot for now. I am praying it happens on its own. I go Monday for more bloodwork, and if my levels aren't dropping, I will get the shot. This has been a complete emotional mess. I am drained. I cry and then get angry. But it is what it is, and I have to accept that and move on to the next round. My doctor was very positive with my situation b/c I got pregnant on my first IVF. He thinks next time will be the one. This still hurts, but I need to stay positive. Thanks for thinking of me. Beta Hell was not a fun place to be. :-(

I am so sorry
I have read so much about a chemical pregnancy, but I still don't quite get it. I hope you recover soon and I agree with your doctor. When I was getting ready for my first IVF, I mentally set myself that it will take 3 tries to finally succeed. Take good care of yourself! |
