slowmo - you can do the Integrated screening test, which is a first trimester blood screening with a nuchal translucency (NT) scan (done between 11-14w), followed by another blood screening. You would get early results from the first blood test and the NT scan, and if those results come up with high risk, then you can still consider amnio.

I was told that at 40 (my current age), my tests will have a higher chance of returning false positives (for problems), so I am still on the fence about what to do. Really do not want to do the amnio...

That is exactly what my situation was with my youngest. I opted to do the nuchal fold u/s which came back perfect. I didn't do the b/w, because I figured that it would return a false positive due to my age and I didn't want to worry the rest of my pregnancy for nothing. I also opted out of the amnio. She was born perfect. I'm not saying that this is what you should do, I'm just sharing my experience.

I am doing the NT screening, but I think I am going to decline the bloodwork as well. I'm 31, but I'm worried that the b/w will come back higher risk because of my high betas. I will probably make my final decision on the spot after speaking with the perinatologist.
