Do you truly believe that doubling time of 49-72 hours is good enough? diff labs used

Hi,

I know we all say that the docs like to see a double of 48-72 hours, but do you really believe that for the most part, these doubling times end with a positive result???

I am kind of stressed right now...

I've had many chemicals and one miscarriage at 10w.

Monday I went in to the military clinic and got a 14dpo beta drawn(IVF) and it was 233

I had one drawn in the military clinic on wednesday but have not received the results...

Then Friday, 18dpo I went to my civilian clinic and got 767

14dpo-233
18dpo-767
Doubling 55 hours

My nurse said you cannot compare results from two different labs, but how off could they really be...

Then my real question is..is 55 hours really ok or am I just deluding myself to think this could work out...I'm trying to convince myself not to worry, but I'm pretty worried given my past history...

Thanks!

Hi Jen. From everything I've read and been told really what they look for is doubling at least 60% in 48 to 72 hours. I have a friend who worked in a fertility clinic lab and she said that doubling in 48 to 72 hours was just a guide line. That 60% is the real thing they look for. So I think you doubling time is perfect.

mmm....beta hell...its awful isn't it?

I think your numbers sound good to me, JenX. Thanks for posting as its nice to share the stress with someone else going thru the same thing. I wouldn't know about comparing labs, other than maybe there standards etc are different.

And thank you too Deno for your post. It puts me a little at ease knowing that my doubling is a bit over 60%. But my first beta was so high at 505, still worried #2 was only 819. I'll find out more what's happening on Monday after #3. I did have 2 5day blasts put in, so who knows.

Thanks for this post.

My numbers came no where near doubling and I am now 32 weeks pregnant. All tests (amnio and everything else) show the baby is fine. I have had other pregnancies where they doubled very well and the pregnancy did not survive. I no longer put any faith in the idea of doubling.

My second or third beta (can't remember) came back with a doubling time of 54 hours. I was sure I was headed for another miscarriage, but I am now 32 weeks pregnant with twins. So, I really don't put that much stock into the super fast doubling times.

Best of luck!!

Thanks ladies for sharing your inspirational stories. It helps shine a ray of hope that there is a chance nothing is wrong. Congratulations on your pregnancies and I hope you have a safe delivery.

LMKH- I had a pregnancy before with very high and doubling betas, only to find out at first u/s it was a blighted ovum. The betas were so high, they thought it was multiples.

Jenx are you going back to the military clinic on Monday?

Thanks Everyone,

I'm going to my civilian clinic on Monday so I will be able to compare the Friday number to this coming Monday's number....

I then am going to grab the lab work from last Wednesday and get an idea as to how my last Monday's doubled at the military clinic...

Hoping for a decent number on Monday......I read every non-doubling post in the beta board......hoping that since my number wasn't low, that it isn't a deal breaker that it didn't appear to double all the way....

Good luck Jen! My fingers are crossed. I'll be thinking of you when I get my blood drawn tomorrow too.

It doubled!!!! Phew....

I guess everyone is totally right about the lab thing

So here it is

Military
14dpr-233
16dpr-510...found that out today...

Civilian
18dpr-767
21dpr-2267

Just a tiny bit over 48 hours.....think its kind of interesting that both ended with 67.....

One more beta Wednesday, and then on to ultrasound stuff....I was so stressed all day and didn't get the call till after 3pm....

Yay!

Those are great numbers! I know what you mean about being stressed! I'll still feel better after another beta and ultra sound.

Lets do keep in touch. Its always nice to have someone to chat with who is going thru the same thing.
