high beta low progesterone
I just got a call from my clinic and my betas are really high 1182 at 12dp5dt of two blasts but my progesterone was only 5.
I'm on prometrium 3x a day and my clinic does not want me to increase my dosage or supplement with PIO, saying the number was OK because I had my blood drawn before taking my morning dose. They also would not schedule a second beta for me as my numbers are high already they said and instead go ahead on my first u/s a week from now. Is my levels too low? I am having cramping every now and then but the nurses are telling me it's part of pregnancy and not because of low progesterone. Anybody experienced low progesterone but had a successful pregnancy here?

low progesterone
I am not saying you or that baby is in danger, but I would not take the clinics word for it on the progesterone. 5 is on the low end and that progesterone is what keeps that baby nice and snug in the uterus. I miscarried in September last year and I believe it was because my progesterone was very low but they didn't prescribe supplements. I would demand they give you either the suppositories or the oil injections.

Congrats on the positive beta! My clinic always does a repeat beta 2 days later, even if the first one is high. They need to see that it's rising appropriately, even if it's high. In terms of progesterone supplementation, my clinic supplements if I'm below 10, which I always am. I have used PIO, Prometrium (both orally and vaginally), and Crinone in the past. I like Crinone the best, but PIO is reflected in blood levels much better.
I would call and tell them that even though they may not feel that progesterone supplementation is necessary right now, you would feel so much more comfortable if you had it and that there is absolutely no harm in supplementation...only good can come of it. |

Congratulations on your pregnancy!! Nice strong beta too! I know you posted this over a month ago, but for anyone else, progesterone is very important in pregnancy. I am shocked with a level of 5 your nurse told you that was okay. That is very, very low. Most RE's like to see your progesterone level at 20 or above. I am even more surprised when they said they wouldn't put you on higher doeses of prog. with a level of 5??? That is mind boggling. They should be monitoring your prog. every week, or every couple until you can wean off of the prog. at 10 weeks, when the placenta takes over. I would insist on the PIO injections. I hope by now, things are going awesome for you and your progesterone levels are where they should be.

update
Just to update, I am doing well at 10 weeks 3 days. My progesterone is up to 40 and I am slowly getting weaned off progesterone. My progesterone started off slow but was slowly rising little by little every week as the babies start producing progesterone on their own.
