HCG up estrogen down - HELP!!!

Hi

I am 5 wks 5 days pregnant after 1st cycle of IVF. My HCG is doubling and my progesterone is steady BUT my estrogen levels are now falling:
LAst Thursday 400
Today 259

What does this mean? Has anyone heard of this?

Is there any hope?

Thanks

I know that it has been several days since you posted and I don't know if you have had any additional bloodwork since then but I found the following website that explains what each hormone does for pregnancy. Unfortunately, it looks like the number should be climbing and not going down.

I do hope that it was a fluke with the bloodwork and everything is OK.

HCG up Estrogen down

Thanks for your reply. I've not had any further blood work done and have my first scan booked in for tomorrow. I have accepted that it is going to be bad news and I just want everything to move on past this. Annoyingly my RE is on holiday until next week so I won't get any closure for a while yet.

the most frustrating thing was that I could find nothing online that talked about estrogen falling! Amazing given how much info there is on everything else!

thanks again

Good luck at your scan tomorrow. I will be keeping your little one in my thoughts and I will be sending positive vibes your way. The fact that there does seem to be limited information on the internet about makes me wonder if it is really that bad. I am still thinking that there was a glitch in the bloodwork.

Amy - don't know if this will help (I just saw the post today):

My estrogen went down, too. Don't know by how much, as I never asked my #s. My RE put me on 2mg estrace 2x/day, in addition to wearing a Climara patch. They monitor my b/w every few days (usually 2x/week).

Good lcuk. I hope your scan went well!

Thanks for the info. I haven't been put on any estrogen supplements but I have wondered why not. Annoyingly my RE is on holiday but I'm going to ask him next time we speak. As soon as I heard I did go to my acupuncturist who did his best to get things working!

I had the scan today and annoyingly I know nothing new. There is an egg sac that looks about about 5.5 weeks, I should be 6 wks 2days. The Dr reckoned there is a half to 1 week error in ultrasounds so says not to give up hope. I have to go back again next week to see if there is any sign of a heartbeat.

I am no good at this waiting game!!

Good luck with yours!

Hi Tammy
Sorry to hear you are having the same nightmare waiting period when we just don't know what our fate will be. It's driving me crazy. I read back through your posts so i got some of your background. Mine is:

M/C Dec 2002
Gave birth to baby boy Nov 2003
Now being TTC for 2 years.
This BFP is my first cycle of IVF. I was shocked to get pg on our first attempt but naturally ecstatic. I can't bear to now go back to the beginning!

My Dr is extremely pessimistic about my dip in estrogen. I do cling to some hope that it was an error, or my body dealt with it but I have had to also prepare myself for the worst. Maybe this one wasn't meant to be. Next time I'm aiming for twins!!

In your case, nothing has fallen yet so hang in there! Things have slowed down which happens. I've read so many web posts in the past few weeks I know this happens and it can turn out fine.

Good luck and try to relax - yeah right!!

Update

Hello ladies

Just to give you an update we went for another ultrasound today (7 wks). They found a heartbeat but it is very faint (didn't measure it). So we are still landed with a bleak prognosis and we are still doing the waiting game *sigh*

Hoping to speak with my Dr later today but I doubt he will have anything positive to say. I expect we will be back for another ultrasound next week.

Thanks for your support
