Beta only went up 400 pts on 5/6 weeks, bad sign?
Hi,
At my first ultrasound they said I looked like 4/5 weeks, not the 7 I thought I should have been, due to only seeing a gestational sac. They ran my betas (which I hadn't run since week 1, and they were doubling fine back then) and they seemed to match around week 5 (6,846). Around 45 hours later I ran another beta and it was only 7,226. This really concerned the nurse, and I go in on Monday, Aug 4th, for my second ultrasound. Is this a really, really bad sign, or do betas sometimes rise only a little sometimes? I could have been off with my ovulation since I was travelling to Italy (wedding), had jetlag, took Clomid, etc. I wasn't so worried about being a couple weeks off since my beta matched, but the low increase does concern me. I'm 44.5, have done 11 fertility treatments (always negative), never gotten pregnant, so this pregnancy is truly important for us! Thoughts?

Unfortunately I had something similar 2 cycles ago- by betas doubled, but pretty slow- then we stopped betas- and at my 8 week scan nothing was found, ran a beta and it was up from 2.5 weeks before, but only2k, then a day later, it was up by 600 - it was a blighted ovum, but the placentl cells were still making hcg - I sure hope it turns out different for you - hang in there- I am 43, btw- and pg again 2 months later, miraculously, with better betas this time - only 5.5 weeks- so a few more weeks to see what is going on in there..

Had another beta today, and it went from 7,223 to 7,723 in two days (increase of 500).
If I take my first beta of 44 on 7/9 and today's, the increase time is 74 hours (last beta to this beta it's 540 hours). I was really hoping for a bigger increase, but it's better than my last increase from Mon to Wed (of only 377). I'll let you all know what happens on Monday at my ultrasound! Prayers! Julia |

Thanks for asking....not good. Still only a gestational sac (which grew a little), nothing in it and the doctor said I should be 8 weeks according to my first preg test. He said it'll be my first miscarriage. But I'm doing ok, I've read that a lot of people get pregnant right away afterwards with healthy babies!

I'm so sorry to hear of your m/c. I've also heard of lots and lots of women getting pg right after a m/c. I hope to see you back on the pregnancy boards very soon! Please take care of yourself.
