What does a beta of 1 mean?
Hi ladies,
I just had my beta on friday at 13dpo, and it was a 1. I know anything under 5 is considered negative, but just wondering what it means. My betas in the past have always been "0". Thanks for your time! Gaylyn

Hi there.....
You didn't say if your on a fresh or frozen cycle...... If you had an hCG trigger shot, it could, in theory, still be a bit of that in your system. You're only what....day 10 since your transfer, so it could be that the embryo has just started to implant and secrete Hcg.......I've read of women who take a hpt in the am and it's negative, and in the evening, it's a faint pos..... Also, it could be a chemical pg......the embryo started to attach, but then for whatever reason was shed. I pray it's the second possibility!!! Good luck Gaylyn! Kim |

Sorry, I should have given more info!
No IVF/FET. (we did that in Aug 2005 and now have 16 month old twin girls!!) This was a natural cycle. At 11dpo I started getting REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY faint lines on hpts. Too dark to be evaps, but too faint to be bfp's. SO my OB had me do a beta on Friday (at 13dpo) and it was only a 1. IN the past, my beta's have always come back as 0. He suggested a chem pg, b/c I did have 13 hpts with suspicious looking 'evaps'. My LP is usually 10-12 days. Today is 15dpo, and still no AF and my temps rose the last 2 days. I don't want to get my hopes up, but is it possible that my bean MIGHT have stuck? If not, how long does it normally take for AF to show after an early chem pg? Thanks SOOOO much! |

Geez, Gaylyn, you ask some really good questions. I think it's so sad that I seem to know more about assisted repro. cycles then a natural one. So I don't know that I'm the best person to ask about what's going on, or when you can expect af. I'm in an ivf cycle right now and after the embryos were transferred, I take prometrium and estrace to keep my uterine lining intact. So if you aren't medicated, I would think that if it was a chem pg, then your period should be on, or just a wee bit delayed, b/c the hCG wouldn't be in your system, and wouldn't be signalling to your brain to produce estrogen and prog. to support lining, etc.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's just a late implanter, and it's taking it's time developing and really getting down to hCG production! Are you going to poas or get another beta? HPT's I believe will detect hCG at 20, so if it's going up, you should be able to get a pos hpt in the next day or three. Let me know how you make out! Good luck, Kim |

that's strange. never heard of a 1 beta. if you got positive hpts...that means you had enough hcg (at least 15-20) in your system to show a positive. if it's only 1 now...i would assume it was a chemical and on it's way down. i'd test again in a few days if you haven't seen af. if it's positive...go get more betas drawn.
good luck!!!

I've had 2 chemical pregnancies, but they were a result of IVF. With each, I actually started AF about 2 days before the beta (around 15days post retrieval--or ovulation in your case). If you haven't started yet, I'm sure it will soon. So sorry. Hugs to you!
