Early beta rise, but not double?
I am unfortunately in beta hell again following a miscarriage (blighted ovum) with IVF #1. This is where things currently stand.
IVF #2 I am 31 Transferred 3 day 3 grade 1 (1 being best) embryos. 10dp3dt beta 60.4, progesterone 24.9 12dp3dt beta 98.3, progesterone 36.5 While my beta was above 50 which is where the RE wants it by day 13/14 post retrieval, it did not double but it did almost rise 66% (it is 63%), which is the minimum they want to see a beta rise in a 48 hour period. I am being retested tomorrow at 14dpt. I would like to know if any one else has had a similar experience or has heard of the 66% rise theory. Thank you.

Emma,
My betas have not doubled since I started and have been low for whatever reason. I never ever had to contend with low betas in any of my other pg and was always at the opposite end so this has been very frustrating. I've been old not every women has betas that double and go onto have healthy pg. I've also been told that some women metabolize hcg very fast which is why the levels appear lower. I had a u/s at 5w3d and we saw a gestional sac and I go back when I'm 6w4d to see what direction the pg. is going on. I'm not going to tell you not to worry because I can understand your concern and I still have my own concerns. My betas were 13 dpiui 93 17 dpiui 176 19 dpiui 213 23 dpiui 421 25 dpiui 675 Progesterone 59 See they aren't doubling and are a concern BUT I know the pg. is not in the tube so I"m hoping I'm one of those success stories. Good luck. Stacey |

Stacey,
I am so sorry any of us ever have to go through this insanity! I really hope you ARE one of those success stories! Sounds like your RE has been straightforward with you which is good. I really hate when doctors try to sugarcoat the facts. Mine said I have a 50/50 chance which I know is not statistically possible. Please keep us posted. I will update when I get my numbers back today. |

Your beta should double in 72 hrs this is why they look for a 60% increase in 48hrs. So your numbers are rising fine.

Just wanted to let you know that my beta dropped today to 81.6, so I am going to have my second miscarriage.
My betas are as follows: 10dp3dt 60.4 12dp3dt 98.3 14dp3dt 81.6 I am some what relieved to have a resolution to this faster than I did last time. I am wondering if my betas will continue to fall on its own, or will I have to have another D&C. I really hope I don’t. This is such a sad thing to go through and I am very sorry for anyone else who also going through this kind of horrible drama. |
