Betas low, but hanging in there (pg, loss, child ment)

Hi, this is my first post to the FertileThoughts boards. By way of introduction, I have been struggling with IF for several years, probably due to endometriosis. I had two failed Clomid/IUIs, then IVF/ICSI in 6/04 which resulted in a twin pregnancy, with the loss of one twin at about 12 weeks, but the successful birth of my daughter in 3/05. We are now trying to conceive #2.

On November 21, we transferred three frozen blastocysts. These are my betas:

9dp5dt - 16
13dp5dt - 130
15dp5dt - 374

So they started out very, very low, but the doubling times are good (about 31 hours). The numbers still seem very low compared to people's average numbers, but my doctor seems to feel pretty good about them and thinks there might have been a late implantation. They have scheduled me for an ultrasound in two weeks, which will be at 6w6d. I'm very nervous about that, especially since with my last pregnancy I had an U/S at 6w5d and they saw one embryo, but no heartbeat, which was a very frightening time for us. We had a repeat U/S at 7w3d which showed two embryos, both with heartbeats. They thought then that might have been a late implantation also. In comparison in terms of beta numbers, I was 106 at 14 days and 2,076 at 21 days, so obviously much higher numbers, but maybe still low for multiples.

Sorry to make this so long. I was just wondering if anyone had any words of wisdom about my betas, since I am still a little freaked out, even with the improvement. I'm not sure where on the boards is best to post, since I'm not quite sure I'm ready for the pregnancy boards yet. Thanks for any help!

Thank you! That makes me feel better. This is a stressful time not knowing how things are going to go.

i agree- i think your betas look great!
at 10dp3dt mine was 15, 12dp3dt 44.1, 14dp3dt 88.2 and 16dp3dt 230
i am 15 weeks pregnant and your numbers are better than mine
what matters is how they double NOT the actual number.
good luck

Studiohuron,

It's great to see numbers like yours linked to a 15 week pregnancy. It gives me some hope. My betas were really low:

9dp3dt – 12.55
12dp3dt – 48, 37.2 hours doubling
14dp3dt – 95.1, 48.66 hours doubling

My doctor seems comfortable with my numbers, but I'm still worried. I have been pregnant twice before with miscarriages both times around 7-8 weeks. With my last pregnancy, I saw a strong heartbeat at the 7-week mark but nothing at 9. I'm currently waiting for my first US on Monday. Like medgirl2001, I haven't felt any real symptoms. I haven't really felt anything with any of my pregnancies--but of course, none of them ended well, either.

I'm thinking good thoughts for all of us.

Shawn

good luck ladies
your betas look good to me
another rule of thumb with betas is "betas under 200 do the craziest things" - it seems once they get past that mark they start to sky rocket
please keep us posted on your US results
