Question High Progesterone, Betas Not Doubling!!

I have not posted here in a VERY long time, (years actually since we took a huge break from ttc), but anyway, we just completed an IVF cycle, with 3 good quality blasts transferred on 11/6.
1st beta was done on 11/15 (9dp5dt) and came back at 169 with prog level over 100 (apparently they only measure up to 100)...so, 11/17 had second beta done and it came back at only 209, with prog level still over 100...
i know that the beta did not even come close to doubling and that is not good news at all, but was hoping that someone had a similar experience with a positive outcome....i am thinking that i am either going to m/c soon, or could it possibly have been multiple and lost one?????
any comments/stories or links that may help on this situation would be GREATLY appreciated! I am totally stressing of course, and prepared for the worst....i am just confused by the extremely high progesterone...what could explain this if i am in the process of losing this pregnancy?
Thanks.
Jenai

I would say don't lose hope yet. I have seen tons of women who have not had their initial betas double and have still gone on to deliver healthy babies. I don't know what to think about the prog. When is your next beta? What did your Dr say about all this? Wishing you sticky vibes!!!

Next Beta

Hi hopinginca..
i am scheduled to go for another beta on monday..which feels like forever from now. when they called, they said that the levels had not doubled as they would like to see, but noted that my progesterone was still above 100..i of course asked if this was the end, or if this could possibly have a good outcome, and she said that they have seen numbers double even though it didnt initially, but they would be keeping a close eye on me....so, it was kind of not reassuring, but not giving up. They told me to continue the prog in oil injections until i come on monday....which i also dont understand if my progesterone is already much higher than what is needed..... nothing can be simple huh?
Its hard to be optimistic at this point, but hoping for a miracle!

My numbers did not double initially either. My first was 368 and my 2nd was 591. I was so worried but my 3rd beta more than doubled at 1282. Don't lose hope.........you have nice numbers and your progesterone level is fantastic.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I hope that things work out for me in the same way they did for you. Congrats!!!!
Do you know what your progesterone was???? i read a few things that said that high progesterone levels sometimes indicates multiples, but my hcg numbers are obviously not indicating that....i am just hoping that maybe more than one had initially implanted, OR...even better, i would love my story to have an ending like yours! Aside from the slow increase, do the hcg levels seem normal to you, or rather, in the range they should be for the time period?
Thanks again for responding!

Your numbers do seem within range. I've seen lots of ladies like myself who had wacky beta number go onto have successful pregnancies. And it's very possible that more than 1 implanted but stopped growing. As far as my progesterone levels, my RE never told me what they were but yours is so high which is good. Hang in there. I'll pray for a huge number for you on Monday!!!!

Hi. Your numners do not have to double in only 2 days, it is 3 days or 72 hours. BTW mine did not even double in the 72 hour time frame in the beginning and then by 4th beta my numbers were sky rocketing. I know it is hard to relax but try to cause i think you and baby are just fine. I am 27w3d and all is well!!! Good luck. I bet that third beta is off the charts!!

congrats on your successful outcome Katie. I love to hear stories with happy endings. it can be so depressing reading all of the horrible stuff that we all go through.
I go in the morning to get the beta and progesterone, and should have results around lunchtime, so i will post, good news hopefully, as soon as i get the call. I am stressed bc i will be at work when they call, and will be devastated if the news is not what i am hoping for.
I keep thinking that maybe more than one did initially implant, but didnt continue to grow. How quickly does the hcg begin to drop when an embryo stops growing? Is it possible that if there were two, one number did double and the other went down, thus my total number not doubling? I know, i am reaching for straws!! One good sign is that my girls are still sore, so i am hoping my progesterone is still sky high.
Trying to stay optimistic, but also being realistic about the situation too.
Say some MAJOR prayers for me for tomorrow!
I will post when i get the call.
Thank you all for responding.......it really helps to get through the stress of all of this!!!!

OOPS...one more question i was hoping someone could shed some light upon...
if it were more than one that had implanted, and didnt continue to grow, should i expect my numbers to double with this blood test? or is it possible that this one may not double too? It will be 3 days from last beta until this one, so they definitely should double, right?
Thanks again!

Update-beta #3

OK, so my previous betas were:
169 9dp5dt
209 11dp5dt and now.........................
today's was 620 14dp5dt...(3 days later)
so, it more than doubled!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPEE!
Now, i go again on friday to make sure things are still progressing well!
I know that i am not totally out of the woods yet, but it is definitely better news than what I got on friday with beta #2!!
