8 & 1/2 weeks & very low betas - HELP!!!

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on & how bad this is????

I am 8 & 1/2 weeks along & have had 2 u/s this last week - both showed a normal sized/shaped baby & surroundings... The babys heart rate was 165 on wed & 171 today... No spotting or anything to indicate a problem... But my betas are horribly low...

Wednesdays beta --- 31,976
Saturdays beta --- 24, 487 ( a different lab then wednesdays)
todays beta - still pending & I will find out results tomorrow --- todays was done at the same lab as Saturdays beta...

Any thoughts??? Some of the Drs seem to think that betas don't mean much at this point as long as the baby is growing & the heartbeat remains good... But others seem to think it means serious trouble...

Does anyone have any ideas???? I am very concerned & very perplexed...

Thanks for any thoughts on this subject...
Hugs
Tanya

I can't even imagine WHY they are still doing betas at this point. After a heartbeat is detected on the ultrasound, that is the main indicator of fetal health, or so I have always been told.

While it does seem quite low, there is such a variation of normal that it is really hard to say, expecially for a lay person like me. Since it was a different lab, that can really make a huge difference.

Do you have any clotting issues? The reason I ask is that it is my understanding that it is the placenta that creates the hCG and if the placenta isn't implanting properly or is failing, you could get falling beta numbers. Clotting issues can cause this.

I am so hoping it is just a normal variation. The baby's heartbeat is perfect.

oh jeez Tanya - i don't know. I just had my first OB at 8 weeks 5 days last week and I requested an extra U/S this week which they obliged and then thought I should get a beta done. I dint know the number yet and will find out Tuesday. I started off with super low betas so it will be interesting to see if ours are similar.

I will ask my OB the importance of them at this point on Tuesday.

PS I have heard of lab discrepancies many times so maybe that's it - will you find out your next step after you hear the number today?

Thank you both so much for your warm thoughts & encouragement... It helps to know that you all think there is a chance... I do believe in miracles & hopefully all goes well...

Teresa - Yes I do have clotting issues - But there is no sign of clotting & I have been on my heparin & my baby aspirin (along with IVIg) my aCL levels are not causing any concern so far...

I would normally think that it may be low & possibly dropping a bit because of the fact that it has plateaued (spelling?)... I know that it can plateau at 8-11weeks & starts to slowly drop - But it just seems quite low for it to be plateau already... Whatever it is, I hope it's not an issue...

I really appreciate your support...

Huge Huge hugs
Tanya
