My Dr. says "beta results depend on the lab you go to"...

Hi everyone.

This is my first post. I am in the midst of changing Dr's b/c my current one sucks. They have been awful from the beginning. Instead of being excited about my pregnancy I have been left feeling guilty and depressed.

Anyway, I got my first beta results taken last Friday. I was about 4 weeks and 1 day at the time.

The result was 272 at 14dpo. My Dr. (I use this term loosely since I have only dealt with Nurse Practioners so far) called me back and said my number is "low". I told her that all of the info I can find proves that my number is very normal. She said, "I don't know where you have been finding your info, but your number depends on what lab you use to take your blood." HUH??!!! The blood was taken in-house by a Quest person.

Is this chick losing it or am I? Isn't 272 normal for 14 dpo?? I seriously want to rip this woman a new one.

Thanks for any advice, answers, etc.!

My first beta was 280 14dpo and I am now 17 weeks pregnant with twins.

Sounds more than normal to me! Congratulations.

Wow. Well, I think your number sounds more than ok for 14dpo. Glad you're switching doctors!

Congratulations on a great beta!

I agree with everyone-
Maybe you should do a complaint about these nurses.
Did you even talk to the doc?

I think your nurse is crazy. That's a nice solid number for 14dpo. Mine was 368 and I have twins!!!

Labs do vary but not by THAT much!! I've usually heard the lab variance in the context of, "you should get beta #1 and #2 done at the same lab".

Over 200 at 14dpo is a REALLY good number, your doc is smoking dope. Unless there's a decimal point in there that they didn't tell you about!!!
