UPDATE: 3rd beta in//Concerned: Only 2 betas?
My RE does 2 betas (8dp3dt & 10dp3dt) and then 1 week later a progesterone check. At a little past 6 weeks, they do the 1st u/s.
Others seem to do so many more betas. I'm kind of freaking out because I keep thinking that if we don't check for increasing betas, I'm going to get to the 1st u/s & see nothing! I'm especially concerned because we test so early & my last beta for 10dp3dt was 45. My clinic doesn't seem at all concerned but how do I know it's continuing to double if they're not testing? What does your clinic do? Am I just being paranoid? Thanks! Sam

I had my 2nd IVF in August...well I didn't have anything to transfer so it was a bust. We decided to give it a rest and...booom...I get pregnant the next month. I called my RE since I had been dealing with him for the last 8 months. They told me to come in before work (the same morning I called). I wanted the RE because I knew I would get more testing than with my OB/gyn. I'm surprised that your RE hasn't checked more. I have had a beta every other day (3-last Monday, Wednesday, Friday). When my beta was 2917 on Friday they wanted me to come in tomorrow for an u/s so we can see the sac and then two weeks later to see the h/b. Try not to worry yourself but still ask if you can get a beta every other day for at least a week if it will ease your mind. My RE's office is so happy, even though all the treatment I received there didn't work. They are so supportive. Take care.

Hi Sam,
Congratulations! My RE only did three betas and they were all a week apart. Just remember, most women don't get betas at all or they get one just to confirm. It's only us IF folk that even know what a beta is! I was paranoid with dd that we wouldn't see anything at 7 weeks. We saw a hb and she was born exactly one week and perfect! Relax and enjoy! The next nine months are awesome!

My RE routinely only does 2 betas also. I had 3 but only because my first numbers did not double initially. Relax....... and enjoy your pregnancy. Most doctor offices (those who test fertile women) only do one. Anyway, look on the bright side........less needle pokes
![]() Congrats on your pregnancy

I got an email this morning from my nurse coordinator that they will do a 3rd beta on Thursday when I go in for my progesterone check. She said they understand my anxiety about waiting until the 30th for the u/s.
I'm relieved but still apprehensive. I guess I will be like this for the next 8 months! (which would be a bad thing - I'll birth a nervous child!)Thanks, everyone, for sharing your clinic's procedures. |

Sam - I'm glad that you got a third beta - just to put you at ease. I only had 2 betas and the wait for u/s was awful. Another 2ww! And just as stressful. Good luck on beta #3!!! I think we'll all have nervous children!
