VERY VERY low HCGs - need opinions/stories please!
Hi everyone! I'm new here, and really need some thoughts from you gals. I had a miscarriage (blighted ovum) in March 2000, a miscarriage in Nov. 2001, and a NORMAL PREGNANCY which resulted in my daughter who is now 3 1/2.
We are now pregnant again, but my HCGs are NOT good. 10 dpo - 11 12 dpo - 19 14 dpo - 27 16 dpo - 39 I had an ultrasound today (18 dpo) and they said my uterine lining was nice and thick, and that my ovaries had good follicles. Of course it was too early to see a sac. The u/s tech said she thought there was still hope. The nurse practitioner said the numbers were NOT rising appropriately (which I knew.) I asked if she had seen HCGs like this before that resulted in a viable pregnancy, and she said, "sometimes." I really don't know what to think. I feel like the numbers are VERY VERY bad, but no one is willing to tell me that I guess. Did anyone have an experience like this? Any advice? Thoughts? Thanks a lot. * I forgot to mention that I am taking progesterone suppositories and baby aspirin with this one, just like I did with my daughter. * On the second pregnancy that ended in miscarriage the doc had me do heparin injections daily, which obviously didn't work.

Well, I'm right there with you. I had my first beta at 9dp5dt, it was a whopping 8. Chemical for sure I thought. Today at 12dp5dt it is 20.2. Re wants me to con't PIO too and go back in Fri. for another beta. This sucks!
Anyone else out there, give us your stories! Kim |

I have had 11 losses and currently pregnant, taking Heparin for the first time!
13dpo - 23.9 15dpo - 31.3 19dpo - 107 22dpo - (results tomorrow) I wouldn't say there isn't hope, I have hope. I hope that mine isn't an ectopic like I had 3 months ago with my first IUI. I hope your's is just a lazy little baby that makes his own way in the world. My RE told me today when I asked "Do you ever see beta's doing that and it's okay?" and he said "It's common". I don't know if he was trying to save my heart but it gave me comfort. God Bless you and I will pray for your little bean

Hopefully my story will help: I'm 27 weeks pregnant with a singleton. At 14dp5dt my beta was 43.8. Then at 16dp5dt my beta jumped to 184, then two days later to 950 (or something close to that). I had lots of bleeding and cramping, but here I am.
If I had had a beta at 12dp5dt, then my beta likely would have been close to (if not lower than) Kim's 20, so there DEFINITELY is hope out there. With my 43.8 my nurse told me that it could go either way. Hang in there! |

Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories and for the glimmer of hope. I want this SOOOO bad, as I'm sure you ALL do. Can someone tell me what a chemical pregnancy is? Good luck to you all, and I'll update after I have my next HCG. Thanks alot.

I had a chem pregnancy before my current preg. There is conflicting information on the web. My RE said that a chem preg is one where the embryo implants but does not develop. Some websites state the same, whereas others state that there is no implantation. Personally, if there isn't implantation and some growth, then I don't see how you'd get a positive beta, so I like to think that there is implantation. My RE said that a chem pg. actually is a good sign b/c it means that the embryos indeed can implant. Frequently with a chem pg there is a problem with the embryo, not the mom. If there are repeated chem pgs, then there is reason to do further testing on the mom and maybe PGD, but I think the literature that I read said that further testing wasn't recommended (or even indicated) until the mom-to-be had 3 or more chem pgs.

Kim -- I bled on and off (and I mean gushing bright red blood) until I hit 12 weeks. My bleeding would be for one day and then stop, then a week later, same thing. With my chem pg., once I started bleeding, I didn't stop, so I think you could go either way. Just take it easy.
