Question I think my beta was looooow

Hi everyone! I just had my 1st ever beta yesterday at 18dpiui and it came back BFP!
So, after the shock wore off a bit, I started checking where my beta #'s should be - I'm getting a sinking feeling that 48 at 18dpiui is a tad low. So, I kept digging and digging and now I wonder if maybe this isn't an ectopic preg?!?! Someone please reassure me that I can start w/that number and it get better!!!! I go in for beta #2 on Monday. Help?!

I found you! Well, I looked around too and found this link:

http://www.tryingtoconceive.com/BBTchart.htm

I'm pretty sure you are around 5 weeks or so? So you see there is a HUGE range of what is "normal". The higher #'s are probably from multiples on the chart.

As for the ectopic possibility, usually the telltale sign of those is a beta not doubling properly, not simply a low beta. A low beta could just mean you had a late implanter, that's all.

If you are worried I'd get a beta Friday AND Monday. The 2 of them would be able to give you more info than just the one you have already.

for a good jump next time!

Tara

PS- look at the detection level on those Equate tests, I guess you get what you pay for!

Hi Quiero,
My first beta came back at 56.9 and I was a little concerned, too. (I was 10dp5dt with a FET.) I think you really need to see that it goes up at a good rate. Mine went to 265 at 14dp5dt. You really need that next beta number to see how fast it's doubling. That will give you an idea of what's going on. I used this link

http://www.ivfer.com/hcg.htm#HCG%20Calculator

to figure out doubling time. My numbers finally hit 7k this past week... so they can catch up.

BTW CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I know you're probably too nervous to be super excited, but you deserve to be congratulated!!!!

Keep us posted!

Katie - your post encouraged me. my 1st beta was 65 and then the next 2 were not doubling. they thought ectopic (still thinking it). third one more than doubled! I am waiting for the 4th beta results today. I hope it doubles. I am at 5 w, so can't do an US until middle of next week.

QuieroNinos - there is hope, so congratulations. try not to stress too much about it. Wait for the next few betas!

Oh thank you ladies for your posts!!
Your stories are so encouraging (knittingmama22, katiecaskey, and AlohaMommy) but I'm still in 'cautiously optimistic' mode - I won't believe it all until I see a little h/b. I'm too scared to be happy!!
I spent last night looking stuff up on Google and I worried myself. Scheduled a beta this afternoon. It was 2 hours ago, so I should know my beta #2 number within the next 1.5hrs. Ugh - I hate waiting! I was SO happy to hear 'you're pregnant' that it didn't strike me to ask about what a low beta could be. So, here I sit and wait for the call to come in - hopefully it's nearly doubled. Stay posted!

Hi Quiero,
I can't wait to hear your next beta number! I'm in the "too scared to get my hopes up" mode, too. I had my first u/s last week (Tues) when I think I was officiall 6w1d and they saw a gestational sac but nothing inside (yet). Of course, I searched all over for information -- some good, some bad -- and I"m still waiting for my next u/s on Tuesday. I think I had a late implanter, so maybe I wasn't really 6w. Anyway, I have an idea of what you're going through! Hang in there!

When are we going to learn that too much online searching isn't good for us???
Keep us posted!
Sending you doubling vibes!!!

Beta #2 in and...

It went from 48 to......109!! Yay! It doubled!
I kept my Monday appt so it will be beta #3. While I still feel like the rug could be pulled from under me at any minute, at least I can enjoy this weekend. Seems like this little embie wants to stick around!
Oh and I was wondering - should I keep doing beta's after Monday?

Hi, my RE made me do 5 betas until I hit 7700... then I got the u/s. I don't know if this is normal protocol. I think most people hit 7700 in 4 betas, but not me

Congratulations!!!
