Beta at 6 weeks

Hey Ladies!

I just found out Monday that I am 6 weeks pregnant. I am due around october 16th 2006. My doctor told me that my beta was 6018 on Tuesday. Does anyone know if this is high or normal? Everything that i've seen online says that it is normal, but both my sister (who is a nurse) and my husband tell me that it is a little high...

I was just curious about your opinions. The pregnancy is a natural pregnancy (after giving up on infertility treatments 6 months before). My first ultrasound feels like its a lifetime away. I just want to see the gestational sac and know that the baby is o.k.

anyone have an opinion on my numbers?
Jen

ZIZZIEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my girl!!!! Where are you hanging out on here? The general pregnancy or where?

Thanks for your info on the beta! My husband swears that he thinks it's twins because he thinks the numbers are high! When you look it up online, the numbers look just normal!

How far along are you now?

Jen

Hi Jen -
Ok Im gonna make some assumptions and plse correct me if Im wrong - because Im kinda confused.
If you are 6 weeks pg then at 4weeks you were 14DPO so I add 14 days to that which would at 6 weeks make you 28DPO. If that is correct I would say your beta's are a little on the lower side but still in the norm range. But that is assuming what I just assumed. Here is a link to a good beta site - look at 28DPO that is why I was thinking yours was a little low, but if Im a day or so off like you didnt ovulate on day 14 then you would be less DPO. Does that make sense? LOL.
Are they going to do another beta? It really matters what the number is doing not so much where you start out at.

I also would say its on the low side for 6w. I had a beta done at exactly 6w and it was almost 19,000.

HOWEVER, you are dating from LMP correct? If so, you may not quite be 6w along. The reason is that when they date from LMP, they assume you O on cd14, but it is possible you O'd later.

With me, they initially dated me from LMP, even though I KNOW I O'd on cd22. I kept telling them that, and that their LMP dating would be off by 1w1d in my case, but they wouldn't listen and were concerned in the beginning at my 6w and 8w u/s because I was measuring over a week behind. I kept telling them NO! You guys are measuring wrong because I O'd over a week later than your stupid LMP date but they just didn't want to hear it. Then at my 12w u/s, they finally adjusted my dating and said "you must have O'd late."

Anyway, there is such a wide range of what is normal that you can't go by betas once they reach over 5000 or so. An u/s will give you a better measure of dating and progression.

Congratulations and wishing you an uneventful 9 months!

I don't know what this lingo is. What is dpo? When I spoke to the doctor about my beta numbers, I asked if it was normal and she said "Yes. Indeed you are VERY pregnant". However, I didn't get any more information. I did read on several sites that "normal" at 6 weeks can range anywhere between 1,000-56,000.
I have my first ultrasound next thursday. i don't know if they will do another beta or not.
This is a natural pregnancy, so I honestly don't know the date that I ovulated or anything like that. The doctor told me that I am 6 weeks pregnant because of the date of my LMP (i did get that one ). My doctor is actually a reproductive specialist because I had seen one for 9 months before giving up and then getting pregnant 6 months later without their help.

Thanks for all of your information. My ultrasound cannot come early enough.

Jen

I think there is a huge range of normal when you get several weeks into pg. I don't think HCG doubles at the same rate anymore when it gets in the thousands.

It begins slowing down usually when you have reached over 10k

Hey Ladies!!

Thanks for all of your responses. I called my doctor today concerned about some cramping and they fit me right in for my very first ultrasound! I am 5 weeks 6 days pregnant and everything looks perfect. As it turns out, the doctor said that my beta was great and that they don't plan to do anymore (they are doing another ultrasound next thursday).

I appreciate all of your help!

Jen
