Can they tell from your Beta if you have MULTIPLES??

Hi ladies,

This is my first post on the pregnancy boards, I just got my BFP on 2/9. This was about 11 days post ovulation. The test was a faint positive, but definitely positive. I tested one more time later that day and it was still positive and again the next morning, still positive. I tested again this morning and the line was much darker and solid. So, I'm pleased that my HCG level seems to be going up.

Since I got a positive result so early and because I had at least 3 good follies, I actually suspect that I've got more than one little baby growing. I go in for my beta tomorrow. My understanding is that they MAY be able to tell if I have mulitples based upon my beta tomorrow....is that right?

Thanks for your replies!

You can sometimes tell, but not always. With my first daughter, I had multiple follicles and a VERY HIGH beta. We were actually told it 'might" be high as in triplets or more and the drs had us really worried. Ultrasound showed a healthy singleton which is what I went on to have. Congrats on your positve hpt... good luck.

Iowa - I wish it would but ya know what there is no way to tell from just your betas.
Betas are an indication of pregnancy viability and progression and of course confirming that you are pg. That is really all. My beta at 19DPO was 3373 and the VERY next day it was 5058 and I am havng a singleton. Just no way to tell and I had a nice positive on 9DPO on an hpt. I so wish there was a way to tell but really the only way is to see two hbs on the u/s GOod luck!

Thanks for your input ladies, I suspected that the beta probably wasn't a reliable way to tell. I'll be sure to share this with DH, he is quite anxious about the possibility of twins or more.

How soon can they see heartbeats on ultrasound?

Usually you can see heartbeats on a u/s from 6 weeks on - it really depends on the person. Some cant see them till 7 weeks on. I know that doesnt help much I hate waiting lol
I however at 4wk and change was able to see two saks and one of those by my next checkup at 6.5weeks it was gone so there was one strong hb So I couldnt even count on the sak count lol.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know everyone says you can't tell by the BETA but both times I was pregnant with multiples I thought I was because of the high BETA and how fast it doubled. In fact with my second multi pregnancy, when the RE called to tell me I was pregnant HE actually said he suspected it was twins because of the BETA. Who knows for sure but it's fun to speculate, isn't it.
