My First Beta - A Question of Timing
I had an IUI on 6/21 and the NP said I could get a beta 12dpiui, which would be 7/3. We are trying to avoid a repeat of last mo when the progesterone delayed af but made me miserable with bloating and cramping for many days. Anyway, the order I guess said 7/1, so we are doing it then. But that will only be d10piui. My cycle is usually short (25-26 days) so my luteal phase is normally no longer than 12 days. Also, I had complained that on Sunday I may not get results until Monday, but with it being the 4th, until Tuesday!
We triggered with 10,000IU of HCG 42 hours before the IUI, so the beta quant test will be 11.5 days after the trigger. Will I get a false positive? Someone told me that that half life of HCG is 33 hours, but that is some higher math to figure that out. Am I wasting time and money by doing the beta then? If it's + should I not get my hopes up? Thanks for your help! This is my first beta test. Kate

I had the same concerns about my trigger shot (2,500iu) when I was doing an HPT. I got my positive 12piui w/ a home test. A beta test is way way way more sensitive, from what I hear. You may have to go in for 2 betas. If you are pregnant, then your HCG level should increase. If the HCG level is left over from the trigger then it would decrease. Perhaps there is something I don't know, and the doctors can tell the difference between residual HCG and a pregnancy. Your body has an natural HCG level of something like 2.5, anything above that, you may be pregnant. I guess if your HCG level is to low then they may not know one way or the other yet. If its on the higher side then it is likely that you are pregnant because the HCG would be leaving your system. These are just my thoughts, its not the gospel. Perhaps someone else out there might have better advice. The rational side of me would wait to take my beta, but the neurotic side wouldn't.
