Beta not rising as much as it should

and I'm worried. Monday it was 468, Wednesday 781 and Friday it's only 941. RE wants me to come back on Monday for another but I'm so scared it's going to be pointless.

I'm so worried.

Thanks.

Hey Genie,

Welcome to beta Hell! This is a dark place to be. BUT, your numbers are fairly high with one little blip. Is this your natural pregnancy? One possibility that I've heard with situations like yours is the "vanishing twin syndrome". You may have been pregnant with twins, and for an unknown reason one sac was not viable, so now there is just one...which might explain the odd numbers. I hope that your next beta indicates that things are progressing!

best wishes,
Allison

Thank you so much for your reply. This was a total unexpected natural pregnancy. After countless IUIs and two failed IVFs we were getting ready to do a donor egg cycle when I found out I was pregnant. Just when we thought we had finally reached the light at the end of the tunnel, it seems like we're back where we started. I don't know how I'm going to make it to Monday, my next beta.

Pg Mentioned

I had a similiar situation in February and am now 19 weeks pregnant!

Beta #1 - 334 - 14dp3dt
Beta #2 - 448 - 16dp3dt
Beta #3 - 692 - 18dp3dt
Beta #4 - 1147 - 20dp3dt
Beta #5 - 1937 - 22dp3dt

No more betas and had u/s the same day as Beta #5 - we saw gestational sac and yolk sac and I went back every week for a while and kept right on progressing! The RE wasn't very confident but his nurse was convinced it was because of a vanishing twin. My OB NOW tells me that 15-20% of women have beta levels that don't rise normally (i.e. double every 48 hours).

Keep the faith and I wish you all the best.

Question question for slow rising beta

Bridget

I also have a slow rising beta and much to eveyones surprise they just heard the heartbeat. However I think the rate was slow so I am still worried. It was 112 bpm and I should be 6w6d. The ultrasound is also measuring around 6 weeks. Do you remember what you initial heart rate was?

Joanne, Believe it or not, the nurse at my RE's office didn't know how to count the beats per minute on the u/s!! They always just told me it was good and strong. I didn't know baby's heart beat rate until @ 12 weeks, at 165 bpm. I may be wrong, but I believe once the heartbeat begins, it starts out slower and gradually speeds up - I think I read somewhere that anything over 100 to start w/ was good?

Keep us posted - I am sure all is well.

still holding on

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

I just got the call from RE. Beta is up to 1480. Progesterone down to 22 so he put me on Prometrium. He wants me back Tuesday after Memorial Day for an ultrasound. We'll finally find out if it's one of three things, blighted ovum, tubal pregnancy or everything's fine. It seems so long to wait and I'm so scared of the worst.

Thank you again for your prayers. I feel it's all we have left at this point, it's in God's hands.

Genie,

I'm certainly praying that your u/s will bring you good news! Your numbers are definitely climbing!

I went for my 4th beta today...won't have results until Wed a.m. I'm just hoping that mine are up significantly. But I guess I won't really know anything until my u/s on the 2nd.

wishing good things for both of us!
Allison

I'll be praying, Allison, that today's beta is a good, strong one. But, I guess what I'm finding out is that we really don't know anything definitive until that u/s. Looks like we'll both have our answers next week.

This has been an incredibly supportive board and I thank you all for your concern and well wishes.
