Beta #'s not looking good - Scared

Hello all,

I have not been to the site in a while. I tried several yrs to conceive and after tests realized that my prog. was low. Last month I got preg. by surprise (no assistance). This is my first preg. I am now worried b/c I had my first sonogram yesterday and they could not find a heartbeat (@ 6w 3d). They measured me at 5w 3d. Also my totals are not doubling. I think I conceived on the 28th of March. I am also taking Prometrium.

14 DPO - 212
17 DPO - 524 (34 Prog)
25 DPO - 4,179 (42.6 Prog)
29 DPO - 8,736 (55.6 Prog)
32 DPO - 13,057 (39.8 Prog)

How concerned should I be????

I can't comment on the measurements because every u/s machine is different but your numbers look fine to me. The higher the numbers get, the longer they take to double. Also, is it possible that you ovulated later than you originally thought. Five weeks is definitely too early to see a heartbeat, many people don't see it until 7 weeks. When is your next u/s? I hope you find peace of mind soon.

Thanks Genevieve,

My next u/s is 5/12/05. I have more lab work on 5/2/05 an will have the results the next day. I read somewhere that your #'s should go up at least 66% and my last #'s only went up 49%. It was the Dr. that told me that I was in week 6+. But the tech said it measures at 5+. That is a 7 day difference and would mean that I ovulated after day 20. I have never known anyone to ovulate so late. And I had sex on day 13 (then more than 7 days after that).

If this is a blighted ovum, it could have stopped in week 5+ and my #'s still slightly go up until it aborts right??

Betas can drive you crazy. Most blight ovums don't end up with betas as high as yours and don't follow the doubling rules. As for u/s sounds most machines are give or take about 5 days. My clinic waits until you're 7wk 2d so they know that a heart is suppose to be present. So many thing could be happening it's too early to tell. I went through 3 weeks of this waiting to find out if I was pg or not. My betas didn't double, then they did and then it was over by 6wk 3d. Try not to worry (I know it's hard) and wait for the next u/s. Here is a web site that lets you know how your betas should be doubling and gives you the rate and doubling hrs. It should help ease your mind. Good Luck! http://www.ivfer.com/hcg.htm

Kim,

Thank you so much. The waiting is the hardest thing to do. I just had another beta test done this morning and will have the results tomorrow. I am praying that they at least continue to go up and then just wait for my next u/s.

Thank you for the site. I found it Saturday and went there. It did offer a glimmer of encouragement and I passed it on to someone who is experiencing the same thing at this time. I realize that your betas take longer to double the higher they get but my last set (before today) would have taken 125 hours to double. That makes me concerned.

But I am trying to remain positive and wait until 5/12 (next u/s). Please keep us in your prayers......
