New Here -- Odd Beta Numbers

All,
I just discovered this board and have reviewed many of the messages .. What a great help you all are to each other.

I'm hopeful to gain some insight from you as I wait out my next few tests.

Here's the story (hopefully in a nutshell):

2/7 -- chem pg -- m/c (from second cycle of IUI+inj)

2/14 -- Beta to 1.4

Vacation week of 2/20 (planned before m/c -- we were going to take a break this month anyway).

3/18 -- No AF, so I did an HPT, very dark line!

3/18 -- 7 a.m. went to RE for Beta -- came back 13,308
(Office thinks that equals 8 weeks, but it's not due to m/c on 2/7)

3/21 -- RE does u/s -- only sees one sac, thinks should also see fetal pole and h/b based on #. Sac measures 5.5 weeks (so what's that 5w2d?). RE nice, slightly hopeful, but not optimistic this will last. (Based on my research, maybe I shouldn't see more than sac until at least 5w5d?)

3/21 -- After u/s they do another beta -- 20,260 (that's a doubling rate of 128 or so hours)

3/24 -- They're going to keep watching betas (dr. is on vaca. week of 3/28) Beta on this day is 22,027 (doubling rate of almost 500 hours -- nurse is less optimistic than before).

3/28 -- Beta is 29,869 (doubling rate of 224 hours) -- Nurse is hopeful, but thinks this is a mystery.

I'm going back 3/31 for another beta, and probably 4/4 .. I have another u/s scheduled for 4/5 if numbers keep increasing.

By my calculations, I'm 6w2d now (if sac measurement was correct last week).

Any insight ... I'm looking for hope and reality.

Thank you so much!

Hi,
I think your upcoming u/s will be more telling than any of the betas because as the HCG level increases, the doubling time slows down. Hopefully at your next u/s, you will see the heartbeat which will ease your mind. Also, it is very common to only see a sac at 5 weeks, that's all I saw on my u/s at 5W2D. Good luck to you.
Genevieve

Thank you

Thank you for the reply and insight. I really appreciate it. I have my fingers (and toes and everything you can imagine) crossed that this will stick .. but the numbers have me very worried.

I'll just keep being as patient as I can be until the u/s.

Thank you again !

My betas were really high early also. At 12,000 they only saw a sac. It was over 74,000 before they saw heartbeat. Also once your levels reach 6,000 the increase rate is >96 hours. Hang in there. Let us know how it goes..
