Question BETA not going up quick enough...anyone been there???

I had my 1sty BETA on last Wednesday after my first IVF cycle with 2 embryos transplanted. It came back at 251. I went back 2 days later, on Friday and my level was at 385, but it is not jumping up like it is supposed to. They sent me for a 3rd BETA test on the following Tuesday and it is at 892, still going up, but not to their liking. I am scheduled for an ultrasound tomorrow, along with my height and weight and another BETA. They told me that I could have had 2 embryos take and lost 1, I could have an ectopic pregnancy (which I have no signs for except the BETA levels), or my body could miscarriage (No spotting yet) and be getting ready to have my period. I am very overwhelmed at this point and can't wait for tomorrow. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if someone has advice for me.

I just went through this same thing. My numbers were 37,89,195,425,632,828,917,996. So as you can see it did not look good. i had an u/s and they did not see anything in my uterus at all so they treated me for an ectopic. I hope this is not what happens with you.

Sorry about your situation but thanks for the reply. I am fearing the worst myself. Good luck and keep me posted about how you are doing. I think we all need a little encouragement now and then. It isn't easy...

Hez30-
I have been going through a torturous situation since 2/10 when I had my first beta of 78 after transferring 3 embryos. My betas starting going down, then up again: 78/75/54/61.8/91/207/390/565/1016/1619/4187. Ectopic was ruled out, and I had an advanced u/s yesterday showing a sac measuring a week and 2 days behind, and nothing in the sac. I believe that due to my levels going down and then up again, that I had a vanishing twin or triplets and that this embryo implanted very late! My RE is keeping me on PIO and estrogen patches until he does my final u/s on Monday to determine that hopefully it was a late implanter and that there will be progress. Plus I have a tilted uterus, which is supposed to cause difficulty when reading u/s's.
But overall, the prognosis is not good. I hope your case will be different!!!! I truly feel for you. I've been living in beta and u/s hell for 3 weeks now and it's been overwhelming!!!
I have had no spotting or cramping whatsoever!!!

I wish you luck w/tomorrow's u/s!!!! I'll be praying for you for a happy ending!!

Jen

hez30 - I have been through a very similiar situation:

14dp3dt 334
16dp3dt 448
18dp3dt 692
20dp3dt 1147
22dp3dt 1937 - u/s w/ sac & yolk sac
29dp3dt - no betas done - u/s w/ heartbeat
36dp3dt (yesterday) Had another u/s and saw the h/b and the baby measured 7 weeks 6 days!

At first I was told vanishing twin (after 2nd beta) - then after 4th beta told it was ectopic. My first u/s showed the emby in my uterus where is was supposed to be. My RE was very skeptical that I would continue w/ the pregancy. He thought so b/c of my betas and also thought I maybe had a second pregnancy on my uterus - which u/s proved this week was cysts from the IVF cycle which are going down. My nurse found a separation at the 2nd u/s which she thinks proves the vanishing twin theory. Regardless, my RE has finally given me the thumbs up. I go for another u/s in 2 weeks and after that he will refer me back to my regular OB! I know the torture you are going through. Keep the faith and I hope it all turns out well for you!!

I went for the ultrasound and bloodwork today and won't have the results for the bloodwork until this afternoon, but the embroy implanted in the uterus. The dr is not convinced that the pregnancy will take and has a outlook of only a 30% chance of me not miscarrying. I will know more once I get the results. Keep your fingers crossed and thanks for your support...

My RE was very pessimistic about my pregnancy too - I think that just must be their nature in general - even after we saw the heartbeat the first time, he told me my pregnancy "was eeking along." Ugh. I believe I have proven my RE wrong now (he's almost admitted it) and I hope you prove yours wrong as well. Keep us posted on the beta #s!

yes same hell

Hi, I'm going through the same stress.
We transferred 2 "perfect" 5 day blasts. I rev'd a BFP on my HPT on 2/13. My first Beta was on 2/17 and its been roller coaster ever since:
1st Beta 244
2nd Beta 380
3rd Beta dropped to 280
4th Beta up to 496
I had an ultrasound where they saw a black speck that might be a sack - I have a 2nd u/s tomorrow. I was give the possible vanishing twin speech on the 2nd beta, then the no hope doom speech and taken off my meds PIO etc. on the 3rd. I'm devastated. I too have no cramps, spotting etc. They haven't ruled out etopic but I don't have any pain or symptoms.
I'm sorry for all of you going through the same hell. Its so hard - This was our 3rd (and thought) final IVF . This one out-of-pocket. I'm upset they took me off of progestrone, etc. thinking what if they are wrong although I know its 95% chance they aren't. Its hard to finally get the BFP and have to lose it. I'm so sad about this.

bbydream-

I can't believe how similar your story is to mine!!! I still have a drop of hope for my ultrasound on Monday. I hope and pray that this embie implanted late and that a beautiful yolk and hearbeat will appear on Monday! I've been on this rollercoaster for 3 weeks, so I know exactly what you're going through!!!

Hang in there!! I truly hope we will all have happy endings!!

Is there any way they could put you back on progesterone in case this will be a viable pregnancy??? I've been on them the whole time!!

PLEASE let us know how your u/s goes tomorrow!!!! I know how awful it is to have a BFP and lose it!! I pray that won't happen!!!

Praying for you!!

Jen
