told to ingore my beta #
I had my betas done due to 2 previous m/c
at about 14dpo it was 607 at about 16 dpo it was 1680 at about 20dpo it dropped to 1000 3 times since then it has stayed at 1000 excatly. at 28 dpo i had an ultrasound and saw a fetus and heartbeat. Blood was still at 1000. at 29dpo doctor said to ignore betas. She said I probably had a vanishing twin, although she couldnt explain why it was moving at ALL. Lab error? WHO KNOWS. She said go by the ultrasounds and that cant be denied. So, its been a crazy few weeks for me as in the beginning I was told I had a missed miscarriage. Which obviously isnt true as the sac has grown on schedule and there is a heartbeat. So, im just wishing and hoping that it all works out. Anyone else heard of this? Thanks Emma

Hey Emma,
I'm going through something very similar. My betas started fairly low, dropped, and then came up. I saw a sac this morning on u/s, but it looks as if my embryo implanted a few days late! My betas have been: 78 - 8dpt (2/10/05) 75 - 10dpt 54 - 11dpt (I was told I had a chemical pg) 61.8 - 12dpt 91 - 13dpt 207 - 15dpt 390 - 17dpt 565 - 18dpt 1,016 - 20dpt 1,619 - 22dpt (2/24/05) We are also banking on the vanishing twin theory. As I had an FET with 3 embryos, I could've had 2 or even 3 embryos implant, and now it seems that I have one beautiful one!!! It's still touch and go and my RE has been extremely cautiously optimistic, but I think the vanishing twin theory is a very real possibility for both of our situations. Plus the fact that you've seen a sac and h/b is amazing!! I hope and pray that this will work out for you!!! Sounds like we're in a very similar boat and I hope that both of our situations end in VERY happy endings!!! Jen

Hello Emma - I am going through a similiar situation:
14dpt3dt - 334 16dp3dt - 448 18dp3dt - 692 20dp3dt - 1147 22dp3dt - 1937 & u/s w/ gest. sac & yolk sac 29dp3dt - No HCG #s done - u/s with heatbeat I too was told I would eventually miscarry. My RE is still very grim about my outlook by my IVF clinic says things looks okay since we saw h/b and we should ignore the HCG levels now and go by the u/s. I had 3 embies transferred - 2 8 cell and 1 7 cell. My nurse thinks the levels are due to vanishing twin and she found a "separation" on my last u/s that she thinks is proof. Still have to go back weekly for u/s b/c my RE doesn't think I will make it...very frustrating but just taking it day by day and praying for my miracle bean!! I know how frustrating this is, believe! I wish you all the best. |

Your story gives me strength! The fact that your betas haven't quite doubled is similar to mine. I just had a beta yesterday of 1619 from 1016. I was really praying for 2000+. I know it's still really good that the number went up, but I can't help but be worried! We saw a small sac yesterday and my next u/s is on Monday when we'll hopefully see a normal sized sac and a yolk, too! I think you're moving along perfectly! I hope we can all beat the odds and prove those REs wrong!!! When is your next u/s?? Have you had a hard time accepting that you're definitely pg since your RE has been negative and pessimistic the whole time?? Even though I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow, I still feel like I don't know if I'm allowed to truly believe it yet. Especially since at 7 1/2 weeks, I lost twins back in Sept. '04. Both h/b's had stopped and it was devastating!! That's why I keep asking my DH, "Do you think the baby is still there???" I'm a nervous wreck! I wonder if you feel the same way!! Wishing you the best for a healthy pregnancy!!! Jen

Hello Jen - yes, I have had a hard time believing I am pregnant due to Dr. Doom & Gloom. My IVF clinic is very encouraging though and say to ignore the betas now and concentrate on the u/s and that the rate of miscarriage does go down after you see a h/b....but I keep coming back to your story and others who did m/c after a h/b. I just want to be able to buy pg books and look at baby magazines like all other expectant moms but I am afraid to jinx myself. My next u/s is Tuesday, so praying to see that heatbeart again!!
Just stay focued that your betas are going up - that's the right direction! Hopefully you will see that beautiful sac on Monday! You are in my thoughts and looking forward to more good news from you! |

My doctor just called and said she was on the phone with my regular doctors office ( the place i go to get my blood drawn) and they told her they have been having problems with their machine so blood results were coming up wrong. She said they reran my blood from the 22nd and it was 43,000
so those 1000 #'s were wrong all along. She said this is fantastic news. She did say she might put me on baby aspirin... whats the for? Does that mean there is something wrong? Im happy, i want to get really excited but at the same time, im so scared that something could still go wrong...... WOW. |

WOW! That's amazing news that there truly was a lab error!!! I couldn't imagine how it could stay exactly the same like that! 43,000 is amazing!! Congrats!
Jen

bhob1-
I know how scary all of this is. Today I spoke to my RE and I wasn't happy with his tone. I felt that he was being negative and he still says he is skeptical of this working, although he will admit that it is possible to have a happy ending here (though he's hesitant to admit it!!). I've already been written off a few times, and I keep proving him wrong! I truly hope to have a sac and even a yolk or h/b or something on Monday. As for m/c after a h/b, the chances definitely do go down. My situation was related to a blood clotting disorder that I did not know that I had. The pregnancy was going along perfectly until the day the h/b's were no longer there. It is a day I'll never forget! But I truly hope that is not anything you will ever have to experience!! I'm going to be following your story! I truly hope we can both have happy endings here!! Please post after your next u/s. All the best!!! Jen
