Hello ladies,
Were any of you put on bed rest due to a positive fetal fibronectin test? I understand that the negative of this test is more reliable than a positive, but I'm still a little worried.
My cervix measures at 2.3 and I am 31weeks 4days with twins.
My doctor didn't prescribe bed rest, but I'm thinking of just doing it myself, I don't think it could hurt.
Any experience with this?
Thanks!

I am probably repeating what you already heard. I heard the a postive result means you are at higher risk for PTL but that it does not mean100% that you will got into labor in the next couple of weeks.
I had some PTL stuff going on and had a negative result which is much more conclusive.
I think bed rest is a wonderful idea. Not sure it will be effective, but pg with twins, I would think you probably need lots of rest.
Best of luck to you and your upcoming arrivals.

Bed rest 100%. Being 31wk, with a cervix that short puts you at higher risk of having these babies. When I was preg with my twins, cervix was .7 at 24wks. I was on strict bed rest till i delivered them at 34wk 1d. The more pressure you put on your cervix by standing, lifting and walking, the shorter it will be come because of the weight of 2 babies. You want to make it at least 34-36wk with them. Hang in there!!!!!

Thanks SO much for your responses!
They did order the steroid shots for me and I had them a day ago and last night. That has given me peace of mind.
I only have a few contractions, luckily nothing too much. I haven't had any pain or discharge either.
I understand the gray area with a positive test, I was just surprised by it and it got my mind worrying.
I'm going to relax as much as possible and I'll keep you updated.
thanks again

Good luck with your pg. I wanted to add that while I was in the hospital on bedrest, I befriended the woman in the room next to me (we started by sending notes to through the nurses, then progressed to phone calls. Never had a visit though!). She was admitted to the hospital at 24 weeks due to shortened cervix, contractions and a positive ffn. At 26 weeks, the ffn was repeated. It was positive. at 28, 30 and (I think) 32 weeks it was repeated and it was positive each time. They stopped doing it after 32 weeks. She stayed on bed rest in the hospital until 34 weeks when they sent her home. She delivered at 35+ weeks.
A positive ffn is scary but it is NOT an indicator that you WILL deliver. It's used for the negative test results. Hope that success story gives you encouragement. Hang in there!April

Thanks for the encouragement ladies! All of you have similar thoughts on what the positive indicates and it's reassuring.
Yes, the steroid shots are hopefully doing their thing and I am hoping to have a long boring wait for them to get here!
Off to lay down!

hi spprow I'm also in the same boat with you.I got positive ffn yesterday and my cervix has gotten short to 2.5 at 28 weeks 3 days.I also have few contractions.I'm so worries I was crying all the way to the hospital.they gave me steroid shot and i have to get anotherone today.I'm taking procardia for contractions and
i'm on moderate bed rest at home.my doctor told me that their goal for now is get me to 32 weeks, and then I will get another steroid shot and the next goal is 34 weeks.
I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and there is nothing we can do just praying and listining to what our docotrs order.hopefully we can make it.we are trying to do our best to keep these babies in there for as long as possible.
take care and I'm thinking of you.me(34), dh(40)

Hi mfcs,
sorry to reply so late, I am just seeing your response now.
How are things going for you?
I have made it to 34 weeks and 4 days, so far so good. I'm trying to be flexible, since I really have no control over the matter anyway.
Hope all is well and you're still incubating those little ones!

UPDATE
I just wanted to update that i ended up delivering my twins @ 36 weeks and 3 days. It was because of preeclampsia, not because they decided to come. So I went 5 1/2 more weeks after the positive.
