Hi all,
A question for charters - how long after ovulation day do your temps rise? Do they rise a little each day or in one big leap? This is my second month charting and I thought I knew within a day or two when I ovulate because I have quite strong pains and am very regular. But my temps go up slowly and several days after I think I ovulate.
Just wondering if this is normal or not!
thanks
Ellie

hi ellie...
each person has their own pattern. it sounds like you are a "slow riser" which is just as normal as getting an immediate rise.
for me, my temp would jump up dramatically the day after i O'd and that was my typical pattern.
the slow climb thing is fine as long as the day after O you see an increase of at least 2/10th of a degree. if you're charting celsius you should see a rise of at least 1/10th.
are you charting online? if so you can provide the link if you want and we'd be happy to take a look at your charts.Dina

Hi Dina,
I don't chart online - I have tried to attach an image to this message, I hope it comes out. It is my chart from when I began (CD9 last cycle) to today. This time I'm fairly sure I O'd on day 14. Last cycle was odd...O seemed to happen later, then AF was late too - I was super stressed around O time so maybe I managed to delay it. Since I had fibroids removed last autumn my cycles have been clockwork regular - 27-28 days.
Thanks for taking a look...I guess I need to be charting for longer in order to see a pattern.
Ellie
PS the faint purple line is evening temps which you can ignore - the blue line represents waking bbts.Last edited by beautiful_day; 07-04-2010 at 01:24 AM.

hi ellie....
from what i'm seeing it looks like you O'd on cd 18 last cycle, and cd 16 this cycle. that of course is just based on what the temps look like.
it stands to reason when you O late, you'll get AF late. if you didn't get AF late then that woyuld probably leave the length of your LP questionable.
i don't know if you're familiar with fertilityfriend.com, but there's free charting software available on that site. there's also a lot more info that you can input so it helps in terms of determining your O day.
and usually after 4+ months you can look at your charts and pretty much see a pattern that's specific to you personally.
do the dates of O i mentioned correspond with any other signs you've gotten?Dina

Hmm - that is what is difficult to know, because this cycle I didn't have much O pain but I was very bloated around CD14-15, and my cervix was high & soft from CD12-14. It was definitely lower & harder by CD16, and all BD desire had disappeared!
Last cycle I had mega O pains on CD 14-16.
I generally get O pains lasting a few days, and I always thought when they stop is when I have ovulated.
I guess I'll have to wait and see when AF comes this time.
thanks so much for the tips though, it really helps to have other opinions!
Ellie.

ellie...you know the funny thing is that you cant use the O pains as a guide. the pains you feel can occur before O (as the follicle is trying to push thru the membrane) during O (while the follicle is rupturing) or after O as residual pain to the rupture.
i used to view the pain the same way as you and then learned i could be too late if i go by the pain. that's why it's so helpful to use add'l methods to pinpoint O. OPKs, temping, etc. then when you put all the pieces together it gives you a clearer picture of when you actually O and how your bodily signs correspond to that.Dina

Ellie,
Nice Signature! Wish I could figure out how to do that and also link my FF (fertility friend) chart. Any advice? What does this link look like?
My Ovulation Chart It seems my temps increase every day after O for about 4 days on average.
I have been charting for 4 months and was shocked to realize I was ovulating a few days AFTER my ovulation pains, go figure! Also, it seems my fertile cm is before I ovulate too, but that might have be operator error lol, will have a better idea this month with internally checking cm. AND, I dont understand this one, it seems my BD desire is higher a day or two before I O. I wonder if thats because I feel icky when I actually do ovulate or what?
I just started checking my cervix, bought a speculum on the internet. Are you feeling it or speculum too? I cant believe how many years I have had annual exams and never knew what the doc was seeing down there!
Fingers crossed for you!
