Hi! I'm new to the forum, and hope someone can explain what may have happened with my recent round of LH surge testing.
I have been using the same kind of test since February 2009 (Clearblue Digital with the positive smiley face) and charting with the Fertility Friend app. My cycle has generally been 31 days, with the OPK positive around days 16-18 of my cycle and FF predicting ovulation at day 18-19. Ovary twinges and CM corresponded as well. So, this month on day 12-13 I noticed lots clear CM and OPK tested just for kicks - I was positive for the next three days. Then, again for kicks, I took another OPK on day 17 and got another positive. Since this has never happened before--when we first started TTC I went through A LOT of the tests to try and figure out a pattern, and thought I had--I called the Clearblue hotline and got a very confusing response from the helpline woman that contradicted the box directions to "wait until you get a positive then stop testing." She also said that the LH is always in the body so sometimes the tests pick it up as a positive, which makes sense. Anyway, sorry this is so wordy, but has anyone experienced this and what do you think it means? By the way, I don't think the Clearblue woman could really explain it, and just gave up, told me to have intercourse that night, and sent me a free box of tests. FRUSTRATING! Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi and welcome! I never had that happen to me, but I always stopped testing when I saw my ++. And because I was temping, I would see my rise and know that I had O'd.
The ClearBlue woman was right that there is always LH in our system. But it shouldn't be high enough to show a surge unless you are about to O or unless you have high LH for some other reason (some women with PCOS, for example, tend to see ++s throughout the month). One possibility is that the earlier surge was false and that your surge on cd 17 was the true one (it would be consistent with your other cycles). Have you considered temping to confirm that you have in fact O'd? If not, I highly recommend it! Sorry I couldn't answer your question either! I do agree that you should BMS whenever you see a ++OPK .Good luck and keep us posted++++++++++ Maura |

Thanks for your reply! In fact, I just got back from buying a thermometer. I don't know why I've been so resistant to temping, except it just seems like one more thing to obsess over!
I'll give it a try! Cheers and thanks again... |
