wait 4 hours before peeing or drinking.. seriously??
Okay this may sound silly, but howcritical is it when OPK tests say to wait FOUR hours before POAS and to not drink anything during that time (or hardly anything)?? I mean, come on... I need water and when I gotta pee, I gotta pee. This is hard because they say that OPKs are not as accurate with FMU because LH is metabolized during the day, but early morning is about the only time I haven't had a fair amount of liquids. What do you gals do about this??

There is absolutely no way I can go 4 hours - the longest is usally 2 for me. And, at least for me... When I get the surge I can pee every 20 minutes and it is still going to come up positive (and, yes, I am a POAS addict and have tested this already). I order my tests online and grow through a huge number every month.
I cannot vouch for the clear blue easy - they say 4 hours and it might be you need that much in your system to make the smiley face... I don't know.

I have bought from a few places -- the best:
Early Pregnancy Tests and Ovulation Predictor Kits for Home Use They get consistently good reviews and good obvious results. I have used them for six months and have no complaints. I did make the mistake one time of ordering from SaveOnTests.com -- that is the only time i think that holding pee for four hours would probably be necessary the dye results were terrible and I missed my surge the month I used them. So I threw them away. Since I was charting, I knew I ovulated but the stupid tests stunk. With the amount of POAS I use - I need to order in bulk.

I never could go that long either ... and when you are ttc, you are supposed to keep hydrated because it helps with cm! So, the two things don't work too well (lots of fluids and no bathroom breaks)!
I never followed the 4 hour rule and I never had any trouble seeing my surge. I used ClearBlue Easy without exception and found them to be very reliable. Good luck! +++++++++++++ Maura |

Just an update on me... I have been using several different brands of OPKs this cycle and am totally frustrated. the darn things don't seem to be working for me. That is, one will show almost positive, but another will still be pretty negative. Then the next day both are neg, but I am already at CD 21 and no sign of O?? Could the fact that I got the flu earlier this month delay my O? I spent all this money on OPKs and they don't seem to be helping me a bit...

Are you charting as well? If so, your chart says no o? The flu you had early might cause you not to ovulate this month.

Hi DNJ- thought I would chime in too. I agree that it is so hard because I try to drink lots of water to help CM so it runs counter to not drinking for OPK! I have found that I can catch my surge with the second p of the day. I typically haven't had much to drink by that time. If I see a hint of surge (not positive but a partially dark line) then I try to test a couple more times that day by not drinking as much just prior to OPK. I use Answer (walmart brand that always has a $1 coupon for the next purchase). They are the best OPK's for me without breaking the bank. I pay about $10 (after coupon) for 7 tests.

If i need to pee then i hold it for at least half hr well try to, but holding your urine for to long can cause water infections so do NOT hold your wee in for 4hrs infact i dont think its possible to hold your urine in for this long, Lol
When it says dont have any fluids before taking the test it just means to hold off any fluids for about 1hr max, X

an update...
Well, first thing this morning I decided, what the heck, to use OPKs. To my surprise I got a clear positive OPK on ClearBlue Easy and am almost positive (but not quite ) on First REsponse. I have read, though, that although First Response's HPTs are very sensitive, that their OPKs are NOT. Anyway, I am CD 22 so I guess I am going to O late this month.... not that unusual actually but this is a little later than normal. I am just excited that I finally got a positive OPK becuase in past months I have had all sorts of problems even detecting my surge. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
