Evaporation Line?

Hi all. I'm new to this forum.

I'm 36 and a plus-size woman. I have no children, but have never really tried. I had an early miscarriage when I was 20 and a miscarriage at 2 and a half months when I was 21, nothing for 15 years (again, I was usually trying to avoid pregnancy) and had another early miscarriage in June of this year. I've never been checked for any infertility problems. When I had the second one they just shrugged and said, "sometimes it happens." I'd like to have a baby before it becomes too risky or my chances diminish any more. My husband and I have stopped using any methods of birth control since the last miscarriage and have chosen to "let it happen." I've not been charting my temperature or even checking my mucus, but I can usually tell when I'm ovulating. This cycle we had sex about 2 days before I ovulated.

The last few days I've been peeing like mad. I have to go about once every hour and a half, which is a lot for me. I typically go about three times a day. I've also been needing more sleep, which is expected since we just moved last weekend and it is an exhausting task. I've felt a little nausea here and there, but mostly felt hungry a bit more than normal. All of these things can be explained away fairly easily by perhaps too much caffeine and consuming too much sugar (the peeing thing), moving and unpacking (the sleepiness), nausea (too much greasy fast food because I'm rushed and haven't unpacked all the kitchen stuff), and hungry (burning more calories from moving furniture around and unpacking). But with the combination I have been dying to take a home pregnancy test. I've not let myself do it until today because I figure prior to 11 days past ovulation it is unlikely to show any results.

I got up today and took the pee test. I looked at the window for maybe three minutes, gave up and went back to bed. A bit later (less than an hour) it dawned on me that if it were to show up positive at this early stage it may need the full ten minutes. So I go back to pee again (because that is what I do a lot the last few days) and dig in the trash. It now has the ever-so-faintest blue on the bottom half of the positive line. Nothing visible on the top half. My husband then came home from work sick and I showed it to him and he says he sees nothing, it is in my head, then goes to bed. But I know I see faint blue at the bottom half of the positive line.

I go check peonastick.com and view the various photos of pregnancy test results and don't see anything that quite resembles what I see. The site clearly states to not trust any stick results past the timer, but could an evaporation line really develop in less than an hour? This seems pretty important because I didn't sit with it the full 10 minutes and not entirely sure how to interpret only the bottom half of the positive line turned. I will obviously wait a few days and try it again if my period doesn't come (it is due Monday or Tuesday). However, in the mean time, I'd love to hear some feedback from people who have used more tests than I have. I'm getting a little anxious and excited and trying to keep that contained if the line really isn't there.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to FT.

It is theoretically possible for an evap line to start showing within an hour. They show as the stick dries. They usually are gray though, not the color the line is supposed to be.

Since the line is light, you waited too long, and your DH doesn't see it at all, I can't give any advice other than this: get thee to a Dollar Tree and pick up some of their $1 tests. They work just as well as the expensive ones (I should know, I've taken hundreds of them - LOL) and you can test again TODAY.

If the line you see is a "real" line, your HcG is strong enough to show positive and is only going up, so another test is your key to know.

BTW, my DH couldn't see my first + with my son either. The next day it was darker and easy to see.

Hoping for good news for you!

Crystal

Thanks, Crystal. I decided to follow your advice and take the other test that was in the box and it came out negative. The test I took when I first woke up still shows the same results as earlier. Perhaps waiting a day or two would give a more definite result (if it is positive) since the second test was after I'd already been running to the bathroom about once an hour for a few hours, and from what I understand the hormones may not be as concentrated at that point. I suppose I'll post with any updates.

I would wait a few more days and retest. A blue dye test can do funny things after the time frame.

Best Wishes!!

If the line is the same colour as the control line and not grey then it is more than likely NOT a evap. Evaps are grey and hard to see to see a evap you need to sometimes twist and squint lol. Sometimes a sensitive test can detect early pregnancy and if your not due on yet then this could be the reason why your getting a very faint line. I would keep testing just to be sure. Its also possible that ladies detect whats called a chemical pregnancy. Like myself i have had 3 and detected them by testing earlier with sensitive tests. It shows a very faint coloured line which then ends up bfn if we never tested earlier we would not know about chemicals Thats why its always best to test near af date just to be sure. But i always test early when on the 2ww i cant help myself lol. Sending you lots of luck for your bfp X

The next day I went to Walgreens and picked up a HPT 2-pack. The first one was defective and I got mad so waited until the next day to use the second test. It too was defective! The day after that I went to Dollar Tree and picked up 3 more tests. I tried one that day and it was negative, so waited until the next day to do it again, and another BFN. AF still hasn't arrived so I'm wondering if it was a chemical pregnancy and my body still hasn't gotten back to cycle. My DH now is convinced I'm pg (because my cycle is normally very reliable) but I haven't had the heart to tell him my peeing need has subsided and lost hope this cycle. Last night I dreamed I had a one-year-old and a newborn, both boys, so it is evidently still running through my subconscious. I'm awaiting a medical card, as I've just been added to DH's insurance, so I'll make an appointment to get looked at once it arrives.

I was hoping for better news. It could be a chemical, or it could still be early. I would wait a couple more days and if AF doesn't rear her ugly head, I would go to the doc to make sure.
