How many days does your temp dip before O?
Hello all- I'm a regualr HIGH FSh board poster but thought I'd try this question here...
Its cycle day 15, I have had really low temps the past 2 days (96.5) I'm usually about 96.9-97.1, and after I O I usally got o 97.5 for a few days then 97.7-97.9. My question is can a pre-o dip last 2 days? My cbfm has shown high for the past 4 days (12-15) but no peak. Its only my 3rd cycel using the thing and the first cycle I didn't O at all so not even a high reading so maybe its confused... I'm trying to figure out if I am actually going to O or not, as many months I don't. thanks!

Hi there and welcome
: There is no set number of days for a pre-O dip... in fact, you don't even have to dip pre-O (I never did!) ... I would just keep doing what you are doing and see what your temps do next! I would keep a close eye on the next 5 days too (for some reason, it seems like a lot of women O around the cd 20 mark if they haven't O'd by cd 14ish... of course, it's all anecdotal!).Good luck and keep us posted++++++++ Maura |

i think everyone is different and we usually develope our own personal pattern. there is no hard and steadfast rule that says there has to be a dip at all.
for me personally, i would get a huge dip the day of O. it was usually my lowest temp of the month. HTH

Hi there: Glad to hear you saw your peak! As for your temp jump to 97.18 from 96.5, remember, that it's the previous 6 temps you look at. So, even though your temp jumped up from 96.5, if you had had a 97.1 (or higher) in the past 6 days, then today's temp would not be considered a rise. You are looking for .2 of a degree over your previous 6 temps
.GOOD LUCK and let us know what your temp does! ++++++++++++++ Maura |

Hey all - this was something I was wondering about. I had heard some conflicting opinions on the subject -- the dip is your LH surge - and it means that you will ovulate two to three days from that low temperature dip. I was having this and was trying to figure out when I was ovulating -- it looks like I am two days after the dip.
A drop and then a rise in the BBT usually indicates the LH surge, which means that ovulation is imminent but Speroff, in "Clinical Gynecologic Endocrinology and Infertility," states: "...the time of ovulation predicted by the BBT does not always correlate well with measurements of the LH surge or with perceptions of maximal cervical mucus production. There is a relationship between the lowest point of temperature and the LH surge but the BBT is reliable in predicting the day of the LH surge only within two to three days. Although the lowest temperature is believed to represent the beginning of the LH surge, the occurrence of the lowest point of temperature is variable and often is not detected. To be used to predict ovulation, nearly absolute cycle regularity is required." A recent study published in the journal "Obstetrics and Gynecology," January, 1996, evaluated the usefulness of a urinary LH kit for ovulation prediction in normal women. Their conclusion was that "urine LH testing every evening is a reliable method of predicting ovulation within the ensuing 48 hours." So, the test kit will demonstrate that ovulation is about to occur, not that it already has occurred. Read more: http://parenting.ivillage.com/ttc/tt...#ixzz0QEsOuHOB
