Mrs A Level 1
is this the luteral phase issue?

for the first time, i ever consistently recorded BBT as i really wanted to know how my body is adjusting from the lap i had from 7/21.

My question is, my period was 28 days, and OPK tested positive on CD16. That makes, my next period came on 12th days after the ovluation. would thi s make me as a luteral phase defect? on top of that, my period is only 2 days and half! i shared this with RE and he told me it can be short and didn't seem to be concerned.

I am about to start IUI with clomid/ ovideril this month. Would the use of clomid help the luteral phase defect?

Thank you for the support and being listening hears, as always.

Mrs. A

Hi there: If you got a ++OPK on cd 16, then you might have ovulated as late as cd 18. If you then got your period on cd 28, that means your LP would have been only 9 days long, which is considered too short for implantation. Now, you might have ovulated the same day as your ++OPK, but even then your LP would be 11 days, which is considered borderline too short. A normal LP is 12-16 days.

As for your period being only 2.5 days, that might well be ok (as long as your lining was adequate). I am concerned about your LP though. Did you tell your RE about the LP or only about your period being short?

If your RE doesn't think that a 9-11 day LP is an issue, you might want to consider seeing someone for a second opinion.

Clomid might help lengthen your LP (it does for some people), but there's no way of knowing until you try!

Let us know whether you get a chance to talk to your doctor. And good luck with this next cycle!

Best++++++++++

thank you Maura. I talked to the clinical nurse today, and she does believe it would be a bit short. I go back to see my RE on 9/8 so i will def bringing this up to him. Nurse said that it is a problem but it is very treatable condition with meds, so told me to not worry too much. I guess i will see more after this cycle (1st IUI)

mrs a......i agree with maura completely. my AFs are also short at 3 days from start to finish. my OB told me this was not indicative of any problem. i did however have LPD that was diagnosed via an endometrial biopsy. i was put on progest supps which is the typical treatment for LPD. it's important tho to know if this is what you're dealing with.

i think everyone can have a short LP here or there, but if it's a regular pattern and you're TTC then it should be looked into.

let us know how things go! good luck!

It IS treatable. You could start taking progesterone supps after you've O'd and see if you can extend it out!

Good luck and let us know what the RE says+++++++++++
