New to TTC
My hubby and i have been tryin for almost a year now. I'm only 23 but I thought it would be "wham bam, ur pregnant". Obviously that's not the case so far. We have been tryin for almost a year and doin it everyother day so far. Exhausting yes but worth it in the end. We broke down and bought the CBFM and used it last cycle .... Were waitin to see if. It worked ....waitin....waitin and waitin. Anywhoo I know this is a silly question but what do we do after the baby dance? I have tried everything (pillow under the hips/ feet against the wall/ layin down with knees up for 20/30 mins.) Is there somethin I'm missin? I know my hubby is fertile, he has one other child from PM. I got checked by my OB and he said I'm good.... Now I'm wonderin if there are some important tips I'm forgetrtin. Any help would be great!!! Thanks!!!

Hi and welcome! So, did the Monitor show that you were getting an LH surge?
If neither of you have any known IF issues, it could just be taking some time. It takes the average couple about a year (even with well-timed BMS) to conceive. Since you're coming up on a year now, it could just be around the corner. However, if you don't see any success, you might want to go back for some more in-depth testing. What kinds of tests did your doctor do already? In any event, sounds like you're doing all the rights things . If you want to try temping, you could confirm that you are ovulating every month. Let us know if you want to try and you need help getting started.Otherwise, GOOD LUCK and keep in touch! +++++++++++ Maura |

Well we got 3 high results and 2 peak followed by one more high result. So basically it was textbook results. When I saw my OB he like did a exam and pap like normal and drew some blood. I just feel like somethin isn't workin cause if were doin everything right how can it take so long? I know its the way it goes but its nice to be reassured that it just takes time. Thanks a lot for ur input. !!! It was very helpful! Do u have any positioning tips or any lil tips to try following "the baby dance"? We were gopnna try temping after we tried the CBFM for a few months. Once again thanks for ur help!

Hi again, I wonder what bloodwork he did? Assuming all your bloodwork is ok (estrogen, progesterone, FSH, thyroid, prolactin, testosterone, etc.), then I would recommend an HSG to make sure that your tubes are open and clear and that you have no structural abnormality. I was 35 before I learned that I had a uterine septum that was the likely cause of my fertility issues! It's good to rule that kind of thing out early!
I don't have any other positioning tips. I did drink green tea and take lots of Robitussin when we were ttc (to improve my cervical mucus!). Nowadays you can take Mucinex, which is Robitussin in pill form. You need the plain guaifenesin -- don't take anything with decongestants! Also, lots of water to keep your system healthy .Other than that, exercise, good sleep, folic acid (while you are ttc -- not just when you get pg) and keep BMSing regularly for now. But when you get to that year point, I'd go in for some more tests! Good luck and keep in touch++++++++++ Maura |

hi and welcome...
![]() i agree with all that maura said but just wanted to add one thing....you shouldn't assume that dh has no issues because he's had a child before. has he had a SA (sperm analysis) or has this not been adressed at all?

Hi Desi,
I am new to the forum too, but I have been ttc for well over a year now and I can tell you this. I wish, wish, wish, wish, wish I had started temping a long time ago. I know it sounds silly, but I really want to kick myself sometimes for not doing it sooner. The main reason I think is because I have mild pcos and I have always thought that I just had irregular periods. So we just did BMS all the time. Well, I have only been temping for a month now and I know it is kind of a pain in the butt, however based on my previous months of trying to keep track of my AF I have really only solidified what I know about my body in the last month since temping. I now know within a small margin of error what my luteal phase is, my average cycle length too, but more importantly for those of us ttc is that temping is the only real way to know if you are ovulating. Just because you have "a period" doesn't mean you ovulated. Just becuase the CBFM says you are at your peak fertile time doesn't mean you are going to actually ovulate. I don't mean to sound harsh, mostly just still taking it out on myself. If I had done even HALF of the research and self education a year ago as I have done in the last 36 days I would be a lot farther along on my journey to concieve. Just my 2cents worth. Also I agree with Maura and DKNY don't assume anything. I have a 15 year old son from a PM. All my plumbing should be working fine right? Who knows? My RE said 8 years of unprotected sex should have resulted in a baby... my gyn said my DH sperm count low and slow, but my RE says she is going off old info... so if it's not the little darlings then what could it be? Keeping in mind that healthy and perfect partners only have a 25% chance each month of conceiving anyway... so.... hope I don't sound too crazy... I am crazy, I just don't want to sound like it! =o) Good luck to you and your DH oh and ps I was born and raised in OR where are you? Amie |

Amie: Welcome!
I agree with you about temping ... it gives you SO much information. When I was doing it for myself, I was so into it. Would talk about it with anyone who would listen! Couldn't believe that my (fertile) sisters and sisters-in-law didn't want to do it . I suppose that is why I ended up here! But don't beat yourself up! Just be glad that you are discovered it and learned so much about your body. So are you seeing a doctor regularly now? Do you have a treatment plan? Wishing you the best... keep us posted++++++++ Maura |

Hi Maura,
We are kind of at the beginning of the whole dr thing. I had a 7cm cyst found on my right ovary that my gyn said was no big deal. So she overlooked it an put me on clomid for a couple months. When nothing happened she sent me to an RE after all the waiting and consulting when he did my ultrasound he said you have a huge cyst on your right ovary and there is stuff in it. So in Apr 09 I had a laparotomy and a cyst the size of a lemon was removed. Thank God they saved my ovary, but I don't really think it will ever be the same. So after healing and all I got back with the RE. I have that crazy situation where I have pretty good insurance that pays for a lot of stuff. In fact they paid for my HSG and pay for all my labs as long as my gyn does them, but even though they claim they will pay for IUI, they will make it as absolutely difficult as possible. So I am paying for everying with the RE out of pocket. Anyway, we saw him in June and at that point he wanted us to jump into IVF, but I told him that we had only decided to go as far as IUI at this point. He said it was a gamble cause I only have one tube open, but he would do what we wanted. Well scheduling around periods and all being what they are I am supposed to call RE as soon as I get AF this month and start an IUI with clomid. I suspect I'll be calling him tomorrow. I was hoping we did it for free this month, but my temps went down pretty drastically today, so I am officially giving up hope. Well, I got long winded, as usual so I'll go for now, but I'll be on here somewhere looking for advice I'm sure for the next stage. |

Sorry to hear about your temp drop today... was it below your coverline?
Also sorry to hear that your gyn dropped the ball on the cyst . Is the tube that's blocked on the same side as the ovary that had the cyst?I have a friend who had an ectopic pg and the tube and the ovary involved were destroyed in the process. She went on to have two kids (without assistance) even though the doctors said her chances were slim. You never can tell. You are being vigilant, which is what you should be doing. My fingers are tightly crossed for you. Good luck and keep us posted+++++++++ Maura |

No, it wasn't below my coverline, but it wasn't too far from it. Yesterday's temp was 98.26 today was 97.69 and my coverline is 97.60.
And yes the tube that is blocked IS on the same side as the cyst. I have actually been feeling some rumblings from that area. I am almost afraid to say anything though. I would sure hate to find out that another cyst has formed or something. I guess it doesn't matter because I will be having another u/s during the process of the IUI that is on the horizon. At this point I have given up the ghost, I have been having a lot of 'hints' today from Mother Nature. At this point, I am seriously considering only doing the one cycle of IUI. I know the odds aren't good so if it doesn't happen I think I'll try to get hubby on board to jump straight to IVF. Not getting any younger! =) |
