Hello ,
I am not sure if this is the right board, but this is the only place I know anyone --I posted 2 weeks ago re: my neighbors beta numbers--and everything doubled for her--Now she has another question--and trust me I have tried to direct her to here-and no such luck-and I am not up to date on things like I use to be-- She went for her U/s and according to her LMP she should be 5 wks 2 the u/s showed 5w 7 days--which is great! However, no heart beat was seen---she is now worried there is something wrong and they are going to do a repeat in 1 month---they told her it was still ok and just early-- I was thinking it was 6w when you could see the heart beat--I guess I just want to give her some reasurance as she m/c back in March--and her DH has had pg with 2 other women besides her and they have all 3 miscarried-and she is worried something is wrong with his "genes".. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi Sheila,
Too bad she won't come here! Anyway, please tell her not to worry AT ALL. The heartbeat isn't usually seen until at or after the 6 week mark. Sometimes not until 7 weeks. Since her gestation is a little uncertain (she might actually be closer to 5 weeks), it's not at all surprising that the heartbeat wasn't seen. It sounds like they did see a gestational sac and a yolk sac, which is wonderful !Too bad she has to wait another month! Maybe they will move the date up and let her come back in two weeks? Please tell her good luck from us and please keep us posted! +++++++++++++ Maura |

I thought it was 6+ weeks---thats good--
Do you have any thoughts on if it could be a MALE issue as to why susan and his last 2 wives miscarried? She is worried as she has had 2 healthy PG with her ex---and yet with her current DH they miscarried as well. Thanks! Sheila

hi sheilia....i ditto what maura said. the avg point where the HB is detected is around 7w. if you go to the gen pg bb and do a search you'll probably see this question comes up a lot..
my OB didn't even do u/s's until 7w for this very reason. she felt it caused too much stress for women if she did them earlier and they couldn't see the HB yet.

Hi Sheila,
Here is a pretty good article about miscarriages and in particular chromosomal issues: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art27561.asp If your neighbor's husband has never had a healthy pg with any of his wives -- or even if he has had repeat miscarriages, which it sounds like he has -- then I think further investigation is in order. I'd recommend a consultation with an RE who specializes in recurrent pg loss if this pg turns out not to be healthy. BUT let's hope that this one IS healthy and they don't need to go that route! Best of luck to them+++++++++ Maura |
