cyst on ovary
Hello. I am 39 almost 40 (Oct.). I am waiting to begin IVF due to blocked tubes (due to prior surgeries). I also have only one ovary due to demoid on one side. I was due to begin stim at the end of June/beginning of July. I began BCP and went for base line as scheduled. However, the RE found a cyst on my healthy ovary. The blood work showed that the cyst was producing estrogen so cycle of IVF was postponed. I have been going back to have blood and cyst checked regularly. I am now suppressed and the cyst is shrinking; however, it is still there. I am discouraged and feeling like this cyst will never go away.
My question is: What needs to happen before an IVF cycle can start? Also, do cysts ever disappear all the way? how long does this take? If the cyst/ovaries are suppressed can the cycle start eventually? What if the cyst is an endometrioma? What is the difference? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Amy

Hi Amy and welcome! Sorry to hear about the delay
. I don't have any personal experience with ovarian cysts, but from what I've read, they can go completely away (the time it takes varies) on their own (also some women take meds to suppress and some have them aspirated too) and even if they don't go totally away, as long as they are not producing estrogen, they're not a problem. As for the difference between an ordinary cyst and an endometrioma, I suppose it's the composition and appearance (presumably a doctor would be able to tell the difference). Not sure what the practical effect of one v. the other is either -- sorry! Bottom line -- if your cyst stops producing estrogen, you may be good to go soon. Glad you are being carefully monitored and I hope you can resume quickly! Good luck and keep us posted++++++++ Maura |

Re: cysts - some natural things that you can try are (these fall under the "can't hurt might help" category, are inexpensive and painless):
1. castor oil packs - google it for directions. I have heard lots of great things, and it feels good. 2. I have been seeing a Registered Herbologist recently and she told me to take 2 tbsp of turmeric in warm milk (cow's, goat's, sheep's - whatever you drink) at bedtime each night. Apparently it is good for getting rid of cysts. Good luck and lots of baby dust!
