Posting for my neighbor as I have lost
my memory on the process of TTC---I should know this stuff like the back of my hand--but have been out of the game for awhile.
Here is her story---and this is all I know-- She and DH are trying for a child and she has PCOS and he has a very low sperm count--she was put on clomid by her family Dr--but could not afford to do the US or HCG trigger---they did the "BMD" on what she felt was her "window of time" June 27-30th". However they also did the dance July 5th. She got a blood test yesterday at work--she is in the medical field and her employeer di a beta and it came came back a 24--the Nurse who looked at it told her it wasn't "bad" but they would retest Thursday--so she isn't really sure how to take that--and the Nurse told her they would know more thursday-- If I RECALL CORRECTLY 24 is GOOD isn't it? I didn't tell her anything--and thought I would hop on here and ask--- Thanks everyone! Sheila

I believe 25 and up is technically considered pregnant...sounds like your friend is right on the border. I wish her the best of luck when she retests on Thursday! Let us know how it turns out.
FYI; this website gives some useful info about hCG lvls: http://babymed.com/faq/content.aspx?13508 |

Hi there: A beta of 24 means that an egg has been fertilized and HcG is circulating. With most labs, anything over 5-6 is considered positive for pg. The reason the nurse was cautious is because in a vacuum, it's hard to say whether the 24 is "high enough" to indicate a healthy pg. Where the ovulation date is unknown, a better indicator is to take another beta 48 hours after the first and see if it's rising appropriately. It sounds like a second beta is going to happen, so that's good!
In the meantime, here is a chart that shows HcG ranges for days post ovulation:http://www.advancedfertility.com/earlypre.htm You'll see that the chart doesn't pick up until 48 at 14 dpo (as an average), which is another reason why the nurse was being reserved in her comments. Your neighbor should look for a rough doubling over a 48-72 hour period. GOOD LUCK to her and let us know how she makes out! +++++++++++++ Maura |

Hi !
Susan just text and her beta came back 89! So it MORE than doubled--she is offically preganant--she is still worried since she MC in March--but I told her RELAX and ENJOY--it seems to be a healthy--now--my 2nd question just between us is--could there be twins there since she was on clomid and it more than doubled????? I didn't want to get her mind set that way--but I am CURIOUS! LOL

Hi Sheila: Great news for your friend! You can't tell anything about twins from the beta rise, though
. My beta rose like crazy with my ds and I was thinking multiples too, but no, just one big boy!Best of luck to her and let us know how she makes out! ++++++++++++++ Maura |
