When can I test

Question for a friend. She had a positive opk on the 24th of September. So when would be the earliest she can test. She got the hpt test that is suppose to be good five days before AF.

Hi diamond! With a positive OPK on 9/24, ovulation could have taken place anywhere from 9/24-9/26. For testing purposes, I would assume 9/26. Then, the most prudent course is to wait 14 days after ovulation to test, which would be 10/10. But, since it is very hard to be prudent when in possession of an HPT, she might want to test at 10 dpo, which is about the earliest possible time to get a ++HPT. This would mean testing on 10/6. HOWEVER! Please tell her that it 10 dpo is extremely early to be testing because implantation can still take place as late as 12 dpo so she could easily be testing before she's done implanting. So, if she does test that early, she should not be discouraged in any way by a negative!

Even the tests that promise accurate results 5 days before AF can't really deliver because of the implantation factor. Yes, they *can* show a ++ at 9-10 dpo, but ONLY in those relatively rare cases where implantation has occurred on the early side! They will be falsely negative in all of the other cases.

Anyway, good luck to her!

I would love to know when I can test

I will start by giving a little background info...I have PCOS and I have had 2 miscarriages, 1 successful pregnancy He is now 4!! We just had a miscarriage on September 24...I was only 6 weeks along, my dr said we could start trying again right away if we felt like it. Well, as you all know, people who are having problems conceiving will never say no!! Anyway, I had a positive opk on October 15th and 16th...when should I test? We've never used opk's before so I am not even sure of when I will be due for a period because of the miscarriage/PCOS. Thank you in advance for listening and for any information.
