False Positive HPT??

Here is the story. I have been diagnosed as being Peri-menopausal, so I don't really count days between periods, etc. and stopped thinking of the possibility of being pregnant. I was not feeling well (Chest pains and difficulty breading), went to the doctor and then needed to take x-ray. When I got to the x-ray they asked me if I was pregnant, and of course I don't. I don't think is possible but I don't know for certain. So I get out of the x-ray office, go buy a hpt and performed the test in bathroom of the x-ray office. The test was a e.p.t digital, so there I am in the bathroom waiting for the negative result so I can go and take my x-rays. The display stops blinkling and says "Pregnant" of course I did not know what to do. I went back home got 2 additional tests and they were negative. Is it possible to get a false positive result because I'm Peri-menopausal??

Hi there: It is possible to get a false positive on an HPT even if you are not perimenopausal. If your LH levels are high, then a false ++ is even more likely. If you are concerned, you could ask your doctor for a blood HCG test.

I hope your chest pains and breathing trouble resolve! Let us know how you're doing and whether you end up testing again.

Best of luck++++++++++
