Question about clomid and opk's
Hello all, I took clomid on cd's 5-9 and today is cd-16 for me. My RE. told me to start using opk's on cd-12(which was Monday). Well, it was positive and I called the nurse and she scheduled a prog. level check for this coming Monday. Well, I kept testing each day to see if the surge would fade(it did). I took another today and it was VERY positive. I rescheduled my level check for next Friday. My question is could the clomid have made my first opk positive? Also as far as I know I do not have PCOS.Thanks, Alicia

hi alicia....
i got the following off the fertility plus site: Q: Does Clomid cause problems with OPKs? A: Clomid (Serophene/clomiphene citrate) can cause a false positive in OPKs if taken too soon after finishing the prescription. According to most of the manufacturers you should wait at least 3 days before using an OPK. If you take Clomid days 3-7 you can begin testing on day 10. If you take it 5-9, you should wait until day 12. i know you did wait until cd 12, but i guess it's possible that the first pos could have still been caused by the clomid. as long as you BMS'd under both circumstances then you're covered. for the purposes of checking progesterone, you did the right thing by putting it off. the progest test can't necessarily pinpoint when you O'd, but it will at least indicate that you in fact did. HTH

Crap. I think I missed it!
I'm on clomid and began testing on day 12 since I am a late ovulater. I am on CD20 and I have not had ONE positive yet. But we've been BMS'ing every other day since then so hopefully if I missed it then perhaps I'll be covered as well. |

Hi there: I wouldn't stop BMSing just yet! Many women on Clomid find that they ovulate later than usual so if you are a late ovulator anyway, O could be right around the corner! I would keep going another few days at least (whether or not you keep OPKing, keep BMSing!) and I would say you have covered your bases very well!
Best of luck and keep us posted+++++++++++ Maura |

Thanks for the replies ladies
I will find out Friday if I ovulated. I am also a late ovulater. Last month I took clomid on cd's 3-7 and didn't ovulate till about cd-23. So, my RE had me take clomid on cd's 5-9 this month to try to get me to ovulate sooner. I guess I will know Friday. Thanks, Alicia
