New Question from LAMom
Hi Maura, Dina and others,
I have a quick question for you all. I have really been having a weird symptom and don't know what to "pin it on". I'm going in to see the gyn. next month, but I may have to step it up before then. Does anyone know what would cause "dry" cervical mucous? It's not that I'm suffering from vaginal dryness....there is a wet discharge constantly, but it has almost a "dry" feeling to it, if that makes any sense. Acidic, almost. No color or odor. I still haven't seen AF, and I've even done another pg test, which was negative (because I've also been having nausea and heartburn!) Just wondering what ya'll may have heard of this. Thanks! LAMom

hi LAMom
is your cm dry as in sticky? is this something you just noticed? it's not abnormal to have that at certain times of your cycle. obviously we don't want that during our fertile period, but aside from that, it wouldn't really matter, KWIM? i've been a little out of the loop due to being away a lot over the past few weeks, so forgive me for not knowing what's going on with everyone. how long have you been waiting for AF? is it MIA?

Hi Dina,
No, it's not sticky CM, I"ve had that before in the last half of my cycle. It's weird......it's watery but not slippery. It feels kind of the way "acidic" things feel....like the ph balance is out of whack or something! LOL! I even wondered if it is like leaking urine....(sorry, TMI! ), but it doesn't appear to be that, it's clear and with no smell. Isn't it weird? The reason that I wondered is because, after my m/c last year, I noticed that my cervix was very dry/"acidic" feeling afterwards. Maybe it doesn't mean anything.......and maybe I have this plenty of cycles.....just don't really remember seeing it before. I started noticing it around two weeks ago. My hpts are all coming up clearly negative but I expected to see AF around the 10th of this month. I did have one day of brown spotting on 8/8....but that was it. Strange, huh? Thanks! LAMom |

hey i think you need to get a blood test my dear.
now i understand what you're talking about. and yes, i had that with my last pg. it drove me nuts and had me going through 10+ pantyliners a day. can you go for a beta? ya never know. my sister went through this and got negative hpts for 5-6 weeks. never a hint of a second line. i convinced her to go get a blood test and sure enough..... ![]() have you been temping at all?

Thanks, Dina. I'm going to call the doc today and see if I can get in today for a blood test.
I've been SO trying not to get my hopes up.....but, wouldn't it just be something???? I've always put alot of stock in hpts....because they've worked for me the within the first 4 weeks, with every one of my 3 pgcies......the two successful ones and the one m/c. So, I keep telling myself that all of these other "symptoms" are coincidental, or unrelated, etc etc. But, you know, I really think that we covered the timing right and then there was that one day of brown spotting too...... Anyway, I will definitely keep you all posted. I keep trying to tell myself that I'm just going in for the blood work, to "cover all the bases", and that it probably isn't really positive, etc etc etc! You know how we tell ourselves these things! LOL! No, no temping. I keep WISHING that I would have temped....it would sure make these kinds of weird cycles alot easier to handle! We were only basing the bms on fertility "signal monitoring"......and, the way the past few months have been very consistent on ovulation day and then AF. Then, this month, I only had the spotting. Isn't it just so weird how some women don't ever get a positive hpt? I find that so amazing......(and, how stressful it must be!) Thanks for the reply though....we'll see. LAMom |

i completely understand how you're feeling. we play these mind games with ourselves and we "attempt" to play things down in our minds. it's a natural reaction and our minds way of trying to protect our heart. i can't tell you how many times i did this.
the month i actually conceived i didn't even want to test. i think in my mind i knew i was probably pg but i couldn't bear to see a neg hpt. so i just would go along each day half in a state of denial and half in a state of thinking it's nice to believe you're pg. why take a hpt and ruin my dream....LOL anyway....i'm keeping all +++++ thoughts for you! keep us posted

Dina,
I just talked to the nurse in my doc's office and she FINALLY understood my reason for wanting to have the h.c.g. test done. She was quick to tell me that if I've had negative hpts, then, I'm not pregnant. Thank you SO MUCH for your help, huh? Duh. I've been aggravated with her "attitude" before and it's enough to make me want to switch drs. (even though my doc is very good). Y'know, I'm not asking the woman what her OPINION is on the matter, I just want to go in and get the blood work done. Give me a break! (I think I'm a "little" bit hormonal, can you tell? )I told her that I know that the hpts have all shown negative but that my cycles have been very regular lately, and I did have that one day of brown spotting.....and, that I needed to put my mind at ease, esp. after the early m/c I went through last year (also, when I just KNEW that I was pg!) She reluctantly agreed to send the lab request over......but I won't have any results until Monday. That's okay....at least I'll know SOMETHING on Monday, KWIM? I just got through surfing a few internet sites about this. One statistic said that up to 10% of women may get negative hpts through their entire pregnancies! Doesn't that sound unbelievable? I actually read about some women who even went through negative BLOOD tests and then found out that they were pregnant, by ultrasound! I would think that those would be very rare instances, though. Anyway, I won't have anything to report until Monday. But, I'll let you all know then. Thanks for your support, Dina. Maybe YOU and Maura should be working in some of these dr's offices........you are so much more compassionate! Thanks, LAMom |

Hi LAMom! Sorry about being MIA! We were on vacation until last night!
Anyway, I'm glad you got the bloodwork. Better to have a clear answer rather than to be guessing. And you are right, I've seen concrete examples of a few women on this board getting negative HPTs until surprisingly far into their pg. Fingers crossed for you, my dear! Good luck and post back when you get the results .+++++++++++ Maura |
