Ovulating Day 22
Hi everyone. I am new to this board. I have hypothyroidism and I am trying to conceive. My doctor said that I wouldhave a hard time getting pregnant and that I would be at a high risk for a miscarriage.
So last cycle the opk's showed that I ovulated on day 22. My cycle was only 30 days. Does that mean that I have luteal phase defect? I heard that if there isn't at least 10 between ovulation and af, that you can't get pregnant. Is this true? Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the board
!Did you get a ++OPK on cd 22 last month? If so, then you might have O'd anywhere from cd 22 to cd 24. And if your cycle was 30 days (meaning that AF showed up on cd 31), then your luteal phase would have been only 6-8 days long, which is considered too short to allow for implantation. A normal luteal phase is 12-16 days long, with 10-11 being considered borderline ok, but anything less than 10 days too short (implantation takes place between 6-12 dpo so if your lining sheds prematurely, then the pg doesn't have time to attach properly). Have you had your progesterone tested at 7 dpo before? If not, that's a good starting point. You may benefit from prog. supps after O. Also, is your hyperthyroidism under control? If you can get that stabilized, then you may find your cycle self-regulates as well. I've seen several people here with thyroid issues conceive, so it's possible! Good luck and keep us posted++++++++++ Maura |

I was wondering exactly what progesterone does. Is it a blood test that my PCP can do? I finally got my thyroid under control this month. My tsh was very high up until the end of June. |

Hi ucalum!
The progesterone level is a blood test. I tried really hard to make sure that they did the test on 7DPO. It was low...not extremely low, but low enough that it was cause for concern. It sounds like it should be your next step...get it diagnosed and go from there. Good luck! |
