+ opk during morning, day - at night??

Hey ladies! I know in your infinate wisdom one of you knows the asnwer to this: I am on progesterone this month and it did cause me to have a period and low and behold 23 days later I am ovulating (yea!!). I got positive results on an opk yesterday morning and during the day, but it was negative last night. The same thing happened again. today and tonight. I'm turning into a poas freak because I'm not sure what to make of these results.

Hi there! Do you have PCOS by any chance? Sometimes OPKs will show false ++ due to the levels of LH that tend to circulate in women with PCOS. If not, the only other thing I can think is that maybe your urine is diluted at night but not during the day? If you want to be sure of the result, you can have your blood tested to see if your LH is at surge levels. Otherwise, I would probably BMS as if you are Oing (and not take any more OPK tests necessarily), but then be on the look-out for any fertile-quality cm going forward. If you see any cm like that, BMS then too!

Good luck and keep us posted++++++++++

p.s. Are you also temping? If so, then your temps should clear up the mystery!

Thanks Maura for replying!! My bloodtest was negative for PCOS, but I do have hormone issues, hence, the fact that I'm on progesterone. I am thinking you might be right about my urine just being more diluted at night. If I have trouble with it next cycle, I will do blood tests like you suggested. I have decided to start temping next month, too. I just haven't yet because I ALWAYS forget in the morning. I will keep you posted and I appreciate your support!

Hi again: So, when do you take the progesterone? Is it to jump-start a cycle or do you take it in your luteal phase after O has been confirmed?

I think temping would be great for you because you would be able to match up your temps and see how they correlate to your OPK results. Much less invasive than a bloodtest and although obviously not nearly as precise, very useful in many cases!

It can be hard to establish the temping routine, but if you keep your thermometer right by your bed and have some way of reminding yourself that it's there, you would soon establish a pattern, I bet. Then it can be hard to stop!

Good luck and keep us posted+++++++++++

Just chiming in...if you have an alarm clock put the BBT on top of it...works like a charm...and then as Maura said you will be hooked.

kdavey- i think that the reason ur opk+ in am and opk- in pm is because ur urine is most concentrated earlier in the day. do u drink lots of liquids thru-out the day? the more u drink the more diluted the urine and the less likely that u'll have a strong +opk in the pm.

some food for thought.

kdavey,
I got into the habit of OPKing twice a day because my surge would happen so fast that I was afraid of missing it. I could usually see it getting somewhat close (if using the non-digital line tests). Then, once I got a true positive, it would be gone by the next test (even if it was later the same day).

I definitely was ovulating - confirmed by increased in BBT, and ultimately a pregnancy, so it definitely can happen that fast.

I just wanted to give you some encouragement that it can happen that way and be a quick surge! Good luck to you...

Smile Thanks!

Thanks ladies for all of your responses and advice. I did eventually get consistantly negative opks (yeah!). I am now 9 dpo and I'm going to test in a couple of days. If the tests are still negative on the 14th (13 dpo), I start my second round of progesterone and will start temping, too (I'll take the alarm clock advice!). Then chlomid will be an option for us and I'm not sure if I'm ready to jump in and take chlomid, so we'll see. You guys are awesome, thanks!

Update

Hello ladies! I just wanted to give you and update no matter the outcome of my current situation. This morning I took a preg test (12 dpo) and it looked like it would surely be negative, so I left. My husband called me later and said "It's positive!" I came home and it surely is! I am aware any results after 10 minutes are invalid, but I didn't stick around for the full 10 minutes, so I don't know when the positive came up. I wanted to give everyone an update and I will let you know if I get another positive in the next couple days. Thanks again for your support. Have any of you heard of this happening to other women and they were actually pregnant? I have one friend that this is her story (and had a beautiful daughter). I'm trying not to get excited (impossible!).

Wow! Exciting! Are you going to wait another few days to test again? If so, nerves of steel you have! In any event, when you do next test, please let us know as soon as you can (well, you can leave the bathroom first, I guess ).

Best of luck and keep us posted+++++++++
Maura
p.s. I do know of others who had the same testing situation and were pg, btw!
