Clearblue Fertility Monitor
Hi.. I'm new here.. and somewhat confused by all the abbreviations to be honest!
I don't even know if I am in the right forum for my subject questions.. hope so.Long story cut short, we are awaiting IUI but in the meantime, I'm using a Clearblue fertility monitor. My periods have been irregular since they began [I am now 32] and so I have never been anbe to calculate my period properly.. therefor, never truly known when I am/not ovulating. Anyway.. I had a HSG around 3 months ago. My cycle is anywhere between 28 and 45 days. It isn't often - maybe 2/3 times a year - that I have a decent 28 day cycle [but it seems that this month I may have one] After the HSG, I had a 40 day cycle.. pretty average for me. Started using this monitor this month and it tells me I ovulated 3 days ago. Does that mean my period is due 14 days from then? If so, as I said.. it means I have a 28 day cycle this month. So I guess I have 3 questions: 1. Does anyone use a Clearblue Fertility Monitor here and if so, how do you find it? 2. Is it correct that you 'always' get your period 14 days or near enough, after you ovulate? 3. If you have had a HSG, what happened afterward?? Did it leave you with any changes to your cycles? Or maybe you got pregnant? etc etc My best friend, who I also work with [so eee every day] just found out she is pregnant. I also get married in 6 weeks, so forgive my ramblings here if I wander off on one. I'm something of an emotional wreck at the moment. I love that 'baby dust' signature, btw.. how sweet is that! ![]() Thanks, Seren

hi seren and welcome
you are in the right place!! i will start by telling you at the top of the page there are links. go to the "acronyms" for most of the abbreviations we use. in addition to the ones on the list, each board has sort of adopted their own acronyms that are specific to their topic. so if there's anything you see here that isn't on the list, please don't hesitate to ask us for an explanation. Quote:
1) i used the monitor and know many ppl that have as well. one you get through a cycle of 2 with it, it becomes extremely reliable. it usually takes the info from the first cycle or 2 and stores it so it gets to "know" when you're gearing up for O based on your hormonal changes. 2) 14-16 dpo (days past ovulation) is when all the textbooks will tell you that you can expect AF to arrive. however unfortunately, not everyones body works like the textbooks say it should. some women may get their AF at 18 DPO and some may get it at 12 dpo. the main concerns come in when it comes too early (not allowing for a conception to implant) and when it comes too late. but if you routinely get AF at 18 dpo, that may just be normal for you. 3) i think you'll get a variety of answers to this question. it can depend upon the results of the test too. some woman have had blockages that were actually "flushed" out due to the HSG. some women had no blockages but were successful within a few cycles of the HSG due to the "cleaning." there's a lot of speculation about the success rate for the first few cycles after a HSG being higher due to the tubes being flushed and starting off with a "clean" slate so to speak. and of course for those that did have blockages, there may be some add'l procedures that need to be done. i hope i addressed your questions and please don't hesitate to ask more if there's anything we can help you with. P.S. were you ever able to zero in on a reason for your long cycles? have you had cd3 b/w to confirm that your hormones are in balance?

Hi Seren and welcome! I echo everything Dina said. The only thing I would add is that the normal luteal phase range is 12-16 days, so AF could arrive anywhere from 13 to 17 days post ovulation, although as Dina points out, sometimes women have shorter or longer LPs than that. If shorter (anything less than 12 days), there might be a problem with implantation since implantation takes place between 6-12 dpo so any early shedding of the lining might interfere with that.
Good luck with this cycle and let us know how things go! ++++++++++++ Maura |
