A little OPK confusion here...
OK, so this is probably a stupid question... but I'll ask it anyway. I've been doing OPK testing every day for a week now. Each day the line has gotten darker little by little. Today it is actually darker than the test line, so I figure I must be getting ready to O. My question is this... if I were to continue OPK testing for the next few days (just to reaffirm for my own peace of mind that it was truly THE day) would the second line get lighter and lighter as each day passes? Or once you O - does the second line stay until AF arrives??

Good question... I think that once you O that the test would then be neg., it measures the LH surge prior to O, so I wouldn't expect it to stay + for more than 24- 36 hrs, because your LH levels drop after O. I may be totally WRONG...its just the way I understood it.
Hope it helps a bit... Vickie |

Hi there: Yes, ideally it's as Vickie says -- the line should eventually get lighter and/or disappear because the LH should drop back down again after the surge that leads to O. Some women with PCOS have continually elevated levels of LH so OPKs are not always effective tools for them.
I always stopped testing after I saw my first ++. Because I was temping too, I would then just follow my temps to make sure I ovulated and was in my 2ww. Now that you have your ++OPK, keep BMSing until you are sure you've ovulated (I would do today and for the next two days if you can). GOOD LUCK and keep us posted++++++++ Maura |
