My RE says OPK's are junk...

Well actually its his nurse that said it...but i think she's full of crap if you ask me, if it werent for OPK's i wouldnt have known that i was actually going to O after 2 years of not, and wouldnt have my DD...and i just may have missed it this cycle too...I'm not sure i like her anyways...she talks over me all the time, and i think she hates that i know so much about IF...

Not sure what the context of the nurse's comments were, but she may have a valid point depending on your DX. I have PCOS and have had horrid luck with OPKs. I have never really had a "positive" (though some months it gets pretty close so I just go with that) and a lot of times I get "teaser" lines on and off for weeks. Plus, at the RE's office they probably have a lot of patients who are using HCG triggers or other meds that interfere with OPK's (i.e. give false positives), so they probably don't recommend that their patients use them.

Having defended the idea that in some cases OPK's are in fact junk ( ), I do agree with you that if the nurse said it in a condescending context or isn't treating you professionally, she was out of line!

I have PCOS too, and i've never had a problem with the OPK's...i get a definate positive when i'm going to surge, and i surge either that day (like this cycle) or the next...She should probly read her chart better before she starts comparing me to the other women...

I'm a nurse and I would never make generalizations about anything and i certainly don't share my personal opinions with anyone unless asked. Geeze....people need to learn to keep their mouths shut when they don't have a clue what they are talking about, especially those serving in the medical profession.

I have PCOS and have great results with OPK's. There are different types of PCOS, those with high LH ratios (opks would not work for those like Cassie said above) and those who don't have high ratios (like me and obviously you) I'd ignore that nurse and do what works for you. Good luck!
