Prometrium, post-o???
Maura, Dina, others---
I went to the doc today for a checkup and he gave me one (cycle) supply of prometrium...12 caplets at 100mg each. He said for me to start them at 2 dpo.....(as best I can determine "o", that is). I'm just wondering, (I forgot to ask him), will it keep AF away, if pregnancy doesn't happen? I know I've seen this post before, but I can't remember...... Thanks, LAMom BTW, as I was "ranting" in my post to JerseyGirl earlier today, I am really starting to be "on the fence" about whether to keep t.t.c-g. I talked to the dr. about it and, basically, told him that I'm afraid of the whole "age issue" all of the sudden. I went ahead and discussed the need for the progesterone and told him that we would keep t.t.c. for another six months or so.....then, after that I (hope) I'll be able to give up trying, and REALLY be okay with that! (I'll be 44 in April). He made me feel better, though, when he said that there are lots of women that express the same sentiments.....they "think" they are done with child-bearing, but can't seem to really know it for sure, yet. I guess it's good to know that I'm really not alone!!!

any form of rx strength progest CAN delay AF. some women have gotten AF on time, and some could be 4-5 days late.
progest is a tricky thing tho. if you have a deficiency and NEED progest to sustain a pg, then you should be absolutely certain (via HPT) that you're not pg before stopping it. i completely understand your apprehensions and "age issues." i was TTC my ds for a little over 3 years before we were finally successful. the sept before i conceived him (which was that november) i had decided that i would give it until my next birthday (which was in 6 more mos) at which time i would've been turning 39. i had never expected when we started TTC (when i was 34-35) that i would be 38 and still not pg. i had always wanted 2 more children and felt that i "lost" that other child in there due to the time spent TTC. my (personal) cutoff was 39. i so wanted one more but was too afraid to try and get pg again at age 40. i know there are MANY women who have healthy and normal pgs/babies at 40 and older...but for me, i was too scared. so i do understand your frustrations. i truly and sincerely hope it happens for you before your "cut off."

Hi LA! I'm another "progesterone girl." My doc prescribed 200 mg. 2xday from about 7dpo onward, but I took matters into my own hot little hands and use the oral form vaginally (I'd read several studies that this gets where it needs to go rather than having to deal with it systemically, all through the blood stream, etc.), and I also start at 2dpo or thereabouts. With the last pg. that I carried to term, I was on Crinone gel, which is the 'big guns' of progesterone, but it is pretty messy and oh, so pricey! Given that we now have the little fellow running around, it was so totally worth it. :-)
I also share in your rollercoaster feelings about ttc at our age. Some days I'm all for it; other days I wonder what I'm thinking? Still, there is something magical about seeing those TWO pink lines and dreaming of the little one-to-be. Like you, we'll probably put a limit on how long we ttc. Where are you in this cycle? I think I'm right behind ya! CarolinaGirl |

Thanks, Dina and Meriwether!
Thanks for the info on the progesterone. I guess the answer to the dilemma is that one MUST hpt, huh, Dina? (That's good news to one who loves to hpt!!! ) Anyway, I wonder, Meriwether, since I'm only going to be on 100 mg/day, if I should use them vaginally instead of orally? Was yours Prometrium also?, (or does it matter?). It's also good to read both of your sentiments regarding age and ttc..... It really does help me to realize that I'm not THAT odd! LOL! If I am, I guess I'm in good company, anyway! ( Seriously, though, I'm sure that there are LOTS of women in the same boat......partly because women are generally waiting longer to get married, start families, etc. (I think I told you all in a prior post about my "vision" to have three children. I think that motivates me more than even I realize.)Anyway, thank you both for sharing your own ideas about it......it really did help me!!! I'm CD9 now......clicking right along, Carolina! What CD are you??? Hugs, LAMom |

CD6 here, I think ... I have to consult my calendar!
Yes, I take Prometrium. If you don't mind a bit of a mess, you can use them vag. From what I've researched, they are more effective going in that way. :-) Have a great weekend, everyone ... I'm off to the coast tomorrow -- WOOHOO!!! |
