OPK positive but Saliva microscope still negative

have a 14.5 month old baby and we are trying to conceive our 2nd. I am not sure of the abbreviations so please forgive me!
I am still breastfeeding and don't want to wean if I don't have to.
Had my first AF on 12th March (the day before his first birthday!) and then didn't get another period until the 59th day of my cycle (I understand from answers to my previous posting that I am having a long cycle). I am now on day 26 (and have not ovulated yet).
I am testing daily with Fertility Focus (the ovulation microscope that uses saliva - I test daily every morning). So far that test indicates that I have not ovulated yet. However, I also used an OPK on Saturday at about 6pm (day 24) as I had some cervical mucus - to my amazement I got a positve result (amazed since I seemed to have picked the exact day of my LH surge right?) I tested the next day and it was negative. The Fertility Focus test is still not indicating any ferning patterns though.
Anyway, we had sex on Saturday and Sunday and will try again tonight and tomorrow and hopefully the OPK was right and I get pregnant!
Strange though that the Fertility Focus isn't showing any signs of ovulation yet though but the OPK showed the surge?

Do you think that the fact that I got the positive result on the OPK that I have a good chance of getting pregnant this month or could it have been a false positive (I've heard that can happen). I read in the book Taking charge of your fertility that you can have an LH surge and not actually ovulate.

I did buy a thermometer but when I got it home it didn't work and I bought it overseas as I don't believe they sell them here in Bermuda!!

Can anyone tell me if I'm doing this all right (I do realise that I should start tracking temperatures too but wanted to give the saliva microscope and OPK a go first). I am very much hoping that by getting a positive OPK (and having the mucus) that I am ovulating and there's a good chance of me getting pregnant this month.

Hi there: It sounds like you are indeed beginning to cycle again. I think when I was breastfeeding ds, I first got one AF at 5 months and then not again until 7 months, when it resumed regularly... sounds similar to your pattern so far!

As you may guess, I can say for sure whether the OPK was ++ on cd 24. But it's not all that surprising that you might have tested on the day you got a surge since what triggered you to test was the presence of fertile-seeming cm, right? If it was a true surge, then your timing was perfect!

Good luck and let us know how things turn out this month!

The OPK result was definitely positive - the line was much darker than the control line. I am confused as to why I have not seen any ferning patterns on the saliva microscope though.

is this the first time you're using fertility focus? i don't have much experience with this, but wondering if you were ever able to pick up a surge with it before.

also, do you have PCOS? i'm asking because some women with PCOS with get false pos readings on an OPK due to elevated levels of LH throughout the month.

No, I don't have PCOS as far as I know.
This is the first cycle that I have used Fertility Focus microscope and so far this cycle I have not seen anything but dots (no ferning or transitional ferning). I'm pretty sure I'd notice it as the diagram in the pack is good and I've seen other pictures on-line.
I have a bad feeling that it was a false positive even though i've been having CM (egg white consistency) this past week.
I now have tonsilitis - maybe that has delayed my ovulation after the surge? Just a thought.
