Beta #'s are in... is this a miscarriage??
I am soooo confused.... so upset.... my nurse called earlier today with the results from my beta... I dont understand why my numbers are so different than everyone else's... is this the wrong set of #'s that she gave me??? or is this a sign I am headed for miscarriage?? are these #'s not for hcg??? I am so confused... I wish I would have thought to ask her when she called - but I didnt really know what to expect the numbers to be... then I logged on here- and saw a previous post ... and my numbers are waaaaaayyy different!!! I made sure to ask her if my numbers were "normal"... and she said that they were really good for 5 weeks of pregnancy.... so what tha heck is going on??? she said my number was 77.30 done at 21dpo.... what is up with the decimal??? no one else has a decimal in their beta #.... ohhh... I am sooo upset!!! I have to go back tomorrow for another... and for an ultrasound to be done on the lump in my breast ... looks like its going to be a great day... Quote:
could this be my progesterone levels and not hcg??? i'm not even sure what the progesterone should be?? sorry girls for being so whiney.... i'm just so scared something might be wrong...

Hi Brandi: Let me try this again (I just posted a long response to you, logged off and was about to fall asleep when I realized that I somehow attributed someone else's last beta to you so I came back and deleted the whole thing so you wouldn't see it and get confused... hope I caught it in time)....
ANYWAY, as I said before, the decimal is not an issue.... I had a 37.1 for my first beta with my ds ... as for comparing your number to others, you can't always go by other websites because their labs might be using a different assay ... and what might be a good number for 21 dpo in one lab may not be the same in another lab... I would go by what the nurse said... if she said it's a good number for your stage, I'd go by that ... and then call back in the morning and clarify that it was your beta she gave you and not progesterone (which it could have been).... right now, your u/s is showing what it's supposed to show and there is NO reason to think that this is anything other than a healthy pg .... I'm sending you lots of +++ for your next test and for yous u/s of your breast ... may all be well with you! Good luck and keep us posted+++++++++++ Maura |

Brandi, if the numbers indicated something was wrong, you wouldn't have had that conversation with the nurse. She would have been much more curt with you, or perhaps even the dr. would have called you herself. They might not tell you over the phone that things don't look good, but they definitely wouldn't tell you that the numbers are really good. Listen to Maura -- "good" numbers will vary from person to person and lab to lab.

Brandi, I know easier said than done, but try not to worry too much about the actual number. As others have said, different labs have different ways of interpreting the values, etc. What really matters right now is the increase.
All the best with the u/s on the lump in your breast. Praying it is nothing to worry about. Hang in there, Pecan |

Ok... I feel a little better.... they told me the wrong number... I asked the nurse today and she said she doesn't know how the other one got that number- because my #'s were actually 7,730!!! big difference huh! but now I am worried again.... doesn't that number seem waaaaayyy toooo high???
... I hate this beta crapp!! I do feel a little better- but I am still confused... what tha heck is going on??? She said she would call tomorrow morning as soon as they know the results from today's bloodwork. Thanks girls for helping me keep my sanity!!

brandi...was this a natural cycle? if so, being off in ovulation or even early or late implantation can have an impact on early beta numbers. there's no way of really know exactly when things occurred on a natural cycle, so try not to make yourself sick with worry. i know it's very hard not to, but just take it one day at the time
keep us posted....

Brandi: HOoray! You sound so much like I did when I was pg with ds. First I was worried that my HcG wasn't high enough and then I was worried that it was too high... I forget my actual number at the time I panicked, but it was WELL outside the high end of the so-called "normal" range... I too thought multiples ... but it was only one healthy big boy!
Good luck and let us know how things are going... sending you lots of +++ for that breast u/s result! ++++++++++++++ Maura |

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your number is great. And yes although it is high it is not unreasonsable. My best friend is 12 1/2 weeks pregnant with one little bean that at exactly 21dpo had a first beta of over 10,000. I was shocked as I tend to have really low beta, but she had an u/s as they thought maybe she was further along and nope she only had 1 in there, just a very strong one. She just heard it's h/b the other day
![]() I look forward to all going well for you and seeing you on the dd board next week after my u/s lady! ![]() Also, good luck on your u/s results. I am sure you just had a tech and they can't divulge information. I had the same thing happen to me last year. I had horrible pain and went on a Thursday for the test and didn't get results of normal cystic breasts for over a week! Hugs |
