OPK as HPT

I'm sorry if this has ben answered before... I read about using an OPK as an HPT and understand the science behind it, but what if 'test' line is darker, but only about as half as thick as the control line? Does anyone have any experience with using OPK's as HPT's? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks,
Jan

The month that I tried it I had a chemical pregnancy, but I have always found that OPK test lines to be thinner than the control line even when testing for ovulation.

Good Luck

Hello,

I had the same question. I found this on a website. Hope it helps.

Now lets get into a simple make up of HCG. The 2 unique beta chains are only part of it's make up. HCG is also made up of 2 alpha chains. Okay so you know that beta is a big part in predicting weather or not you are pregnant, so what do the alpha chains do? They are also a predictor of pregnancy. What happens is when you conceive the alpha chains are being made along with the beta chains but the alpha chains are easier to detect in the early part of pregnancy. As the pregnancy progresses the beta chains will become stronger. So why bring up the alpha chains if HPT's detect mostly the beta chains of HCG? Because alpha and beta chains are also present in your LH. That's right, in fact the 2 alpha chains in LH are the exact same 2 alpha chains present in HCG. The OPK's detect those alpha chains.

I tried to use an OPK when I had gotten my BFP on a HPT... and it was neg. Although... when I did try again at about 6 months preg, it came out positive. So.. I have seen it both ways!

I tried it when I was pg and the test line was so dark that there wasn't any dye left for the control line. Pretty crazy huh? Bottom line, just use a hpt, why drive yourself crazy.

nevermind - hpt was soooooo very negative. The ominous single bright pink line in a sea of pure white. I officially give up. IF kicked my butt.

I'm so sorry. What dpo are you now? Is there a chance that you tested too early? Hoping that's the case.

Good luck and keep us posted+++++++

Thanks, but I'm 13 dpo, and know my pms symptoms all to well - I can't drive myself crazy by holding out any false hope. We'll just take it from here, be thankful for what I have, and live the best life I can w/o anymore children.

Thanks for your support.
Jan
