Why is spotting before AF not considdered AF?

I'm just wondering, because i always considdered any sign of blood AF, and i put it on my chart as "light" If i put it on there as spotting then my past chart would change, not that it really matters right now, but it would make my LP that cycle longer. Anything over 10 days is good right??? TIA

Hello*!!! I was told AF is not AF until it is a full red flow...BUT I think each DR has a different idea... I would say the first day of red flow is AF...spotting most times leads to that, but not always.

I agree with QV. I've always been told that the first day of red flow is considered CD1. Spotting leading up to AF is still considered part of the previous months LP.

that theory never worked for me, at least not mentally. i had to count my spotting as day 1 or i was always off when tracking O.

your LP should be at least 12 days. 11 is considered very borderline, but 10 is definitely too short. implantation can occur up until 12 dpo, thus the reason 10 is too short. it's very possible with a 10 day LP your lining is shedding before a possible conception could implant.

For me it is the day my temp drops. I always consider that CD1. I realized not everyone takes their temps, but it is a good idea because it really helps you figure out you cycle more accurately. Good Luck, JAS

ditto on the temp drop - although of course last cycle didn't pertain, but mostly ditto to the temp drop!

i noticed this on ff too!! i went back and changed my chart to light instead of spotting so it would change my cycle- if not i would be confused!! but it does make sense in a way to not change it the first day if you are only spotting- because my temp went UP on the first day of AF when it was just spotting- temp did not drop til the next day when Af was heavier... weird .... hopefully soon we wont have to worry about that ole' witch at ALL!!! for at least say... 40 weeks!! LOL!!! that would be nice!! goodluck to you!!
