Question Does it really matter?

Well it's that time again for my BMS marathon to begin and I've had this question for quite some time, but never had the nerve to ask....I've heard many conflicting opinions on this and I don't know what to think...My question is - Does it really matter when ttc if the woman has an orgasm or not? (sorry...TMI, but I don't know how to rephrase it!)....Does it help get the sperm where they need to go or anything like that? The reason why I'm asking is because I don't always "O" during sex because my endometriosis causes sex to be painful sometimes and I can't always really "enjoy it". My DH thinks that if it's absolutely necessary for me to have one in order to conceive, then that could be one of our problems and we want to figure out how to fix it.
I'm sorry for the touchy subject...but I thought if anyone could help me clear this up it would be the ladies here! Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone this cycle!

I saw on some show on discovery, or tlc something like that. But it was the anatomy of an orgasm. When a woman orgasms, the cervix actually dips down and "sucks" up the sperm. Providing, he has already orgasmed. My mom has never orgasmed in her life, she has some kind of disorder. And obviously she got pregnant without it. The show didnt say one way or another, but my thinking would be that orgasming helps. But obviously doesn't matter.

My RE told us, that is a controversial issue, studies do not support that it increases the success of pg, but like he said it can't hurt. But let me say for my poor friend that was raped and conceived, NO, you do not have to orgasm to conceive.

you definitely don't "need" to to get pg. i'm sure there are millions of women who've conceived without having an orgasm.

the studies i've read is exactly what kimkaye described. they say the uterine contractions after orgasm are what help draw up the sperm.

I found this report, for you, hope it helps.

Other tips to increase your chances of conceiving

Advice abounds on ways to improve your chances of conceiving. Unfortunately, most of the commonly repeated tips have no grounding in fact. For example, your position during intercourse has no bearing on your likelihood of pregnancy. Nor does it matter whether you really do or don't want to have a baby -- desire has no impact on pregnancy rates. And although there is some logic to the theory that a woman's orgasm might improve the ability of the sperm to enter the uterus, studies have not yet found any connection between female orgasm and conception.

Q. Can a woman get pregnant if she doesn’t have an orgasm?

A. Yes. Having an orgasm has nothing to do with when a woman gets pregnant, but ovulation does. For more information on the topic of ovulation please see the FAQ’s on ovulation.

Ok.. I have to add.. I was watching oh shoot... some show on tv... lol...I think it was one of the baby shows.. The mid wife was stating that if you have an O first, that it MAY help the male sperm due to increased fluids. It wasnt stated though that you had to have an O at all. Just that the cervix does dip down into a pocket that most of the sperm are... if that timing is right on.. ya know!!

Best Wishes!!
